Donald's Very Own Reichstag Fire

It's also an easy wager that, in the days to come, Trump and his minions will stoop to horrifically stupid and reckless depths in order to distract his already comically distracted fellow countrymen and women. I'm not conclusively saying that they're going to create their very own, Made-in-America Reichstag Fire, I'm just warning you not to put it past them. Cornered rats are known to be quite unpredictable. The "leader of the free world" has already shown his sociopathic tendencies. At this point, anything can happen. Brace yourselves for the shit storm.

From this blog, 8/5/17

"North Korea best not make anymore threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like world has never seen."

Donald Trump

I'm not an expert on the art of diplomacy. All I really know is that it is wrought with complexity. Here's what I do know: While it is essential that Kim Jung Un understand that a nuclear attack against any country on the planet would assure that both he and his tortured nation would cease to exist before the sun set on the day of the attack, it's also a pretty good idea that the warning should not be announced via a bullhorn with all the word watching. Apparently, the military (not to mention several politicians from his own party) are aghast by the Donald's unhinged saber rattling on Tuesday. He would have been wise to adhere to Theodore Roosevelt's advice. The United States is possessed of a pretty big stick - the biggest on the block. We need to "speak softly" when wielding it. These diplomatic subtleties are simply beyond the comprehension of someone as unsubtle as Donald Trump. This is why his presidency was doomed before it arrived at the starting gate.

My guess is that the only reason he would make such a reckless statement (other than abject stupidity) is that he is trying to deflect our attention from the growing metastasizing scandal that - day by day - is consuming his administration. The prediction on this site four days ago that he might pull something like this is really no big deal. I'm not the only commentator to predict as much - nor am I the only. Anyone paying scant attention to this disgusting sideshow could easily have seen it coming. This is what corrupt politicians do when they are cornered: they distract.

First of all, Trump has threatened the Infant King of North Korea with a hail of "fire and fury" if he "threatens" the United States. I'm not an expert on international law, but "threatening" another nation is not illegal. What's an unstable despot like Kim supposed to think? How will he react? Back channels could have let him know, in no uncertain terms, that ay kind of attack on the U.S. held territory of Guam would be disastrous for him. What is far more likely is that this idiotic provocation by Trump would humiliate him into making a strike against South Korea. Here's another prediction I made back in October, a full month before the election: If the voters of this doomed nation were foolish enough to send this silly sociopath to the White House, a lot of innocent people are going to die. I hope that I'm wrong. I don't believe that I am.

Consider this: Two not-terribly bright,  psychotic despots are waving nuclear sabers at each other from across the Pacific Ocean. Ain't that something?

What I'd like to know is why Obama and really Bush also ignored what was happening. Did Obama kick the can down the road guessing it'd not be obvious what NK had until he was out of office? When Clinton said he'd give them stuff if they would not develop a bomb, did he know what would happen, but off his watch? Was Bush so busy with his other trio of evil that he ignored this one?

Like many of us, I feel uncomfortable with Trump in the power seat, but you can't ignore why we got here with NK-- that is unless you are a democrat who only wants to blame someone else. Eight years Obama had and clearly he did nothing effective.

Now I wonder what about Iran where Obama handed over all that money and got them to agree, as NK had years earlier, not to develop one. I wonder if they made a deal to not help NK develop one. Someone must have upped their efficiency as it wasn't thought it'd be here so soon... but was any timetable okay for them having this with their government? With Trump, the military might say no to him if he suggests something wacky. The North Korean military doesn't have that ability from what i know of their system.

Mr. Stivic,
I once asked Tom if HRC lied, he said yes. Keep that in mind when Tom provides one of her quotes.

Rain,

Spot on again, sadly you ask questions instead of slamming Republicans and will now pay the price.

North Korea has a history of unfulfilled threats and bravado. The father and grandfather were the same way. Part of North Korea's character as a country is making empty threats.
Two things have changed. North Korea is now a nuclear power and America now has an idiot, bully for a president, who can top the bravado the leader of North Korea spews out.
Two immature bullies at each others throats will escalate to a physical fight. Seems Trump wants to pick a fight with most countries and is just itching for a war to prove whose dick is bigger. Typical behavior for a 13 year old.
It's a dangerous game and if North Korea did launch atomic weapons against any country; America would have an obligation to itself and the peace of the world to completely end that capability, which does not necessarily mean the complete nuclear destruction of North Korea. But with Trump as president, that's exactly what will happen. "God help us" will be a phrase even atheists will start using.
Don't count on Republican majority leadership to stop Trump. They care more about their party than their country.

Luke gets much of this right. Scarily, the problem will only be compounded once Iran also gets the bomb in short order despite President Obama's agreement with them to supposedly prevent such an event coming to fruition. (The difference between Trump and Obama in their arrogance and foolishness is that Obama was a little more circumspect about publically announcing his idiocy.)

Unlike North Korea and their desire for self preservation, Iran has no issues using that nuclear weapon against their enemies if it will hasten the return of their mahdi and the uniting of the world under Islam in their sick and depraved beliefs. This is what is likely to happen though since we made a deal with the world's greatest state sponsor of terrorism. And Trump will be there taunting them all along too instead of speaking softly and carrying a big stick.

God help us indeed!

Rain, Obama and Bush (along with Clinton, Bush sr and Reagan) Knew how to handle N Korea. LET THEM BLOVIATE AND SABER RATTLE. They were only doing so to make themselves feel powerful in front of their audience. Until Trump came along to "inspire" them N Korea couldn't hit the USA with a missile if they fired it from Alcatraz. But NOW they feel "threatened" because OUR little boy with a tiny pecker wants to prove what a "man" he is. He's firing off conventional bombs and not hitting ANYTHING (good thing he owns stock in those defense contractors huh?)but you can't fake it with nukes.

As for Major Stivic there, once again he does not post anything relevant. It's not Hillary questioning the election, it's the Justice dept and intelligence community investigating collusion and possible TREASON on the part of Trump and his campaign. To distract from THAT Trump bombs empty targets (making money from each bomb he dropps) and when THAT didn't work he NOW will use the "nuclear option". We will NOT be helped by a non existent entity. This one is all on us.

Trump is trying to start global thermonuclear war.

Major (clucky) Stivic is still obsessing on Hillary.

It just makes you shake your head at trump supporters. Are you REALLY that stupid or just to embarrassed to admit you were so wrong?

Maybe I'm not supposed to understand. Too far down the rabbit hole of conservative thinking and I may end up like you. Stepford citizens, but without the class.

Yes, Mozart. They are that stupid. And yes, they are also evil liars and haters.

unless you are a democrat who only wants to blame someone else. Even "moderates" hate and blame liberals and democrats now. "Spot on", indeed.

The Cult grows.

Conservatives are still blaming Obama for an international agreement that greatly reduced Iran's nuclear material. That koolade is mighty delicious. You see, Trump and Obama are so much alike. Yup. Glug, glug, glug.

Funny how "moderates" can't see that US aggression is the primary reason other "rogue states" want a weapon to insure we don't bomb them. It was a Pakistani, NOT an Iranian that helped North Korea get a bomb. But what do I know? I'm just another liberal to blame for everything bad.

Iran has no issues using that nuclear weapon against their enemies

We have an "expert", I see. Demonizing, blaming, and fear-mongering is the All-American Pastime for the CRAP. Guess what? The US is the only nation to actually have used nuclear weapons against enemies. Project much?

Clucky.

You SHOULD be saying Madam President, and if THAT is the best reply you can come up with, best you stay quiet. Just because there was a coup does not mean Trump is the best person for the job, or is in any way defendable, and you know that as well, since you came up with no way to defend him other than Evoke Hillary.
