Bad Omens and One Lucky Break
Rep. Scalise |
My plan this afternoon was to write about yesterday's comically endearing Jeff Sessions testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee (he says he couldn't "recall" twenty-seven times), but that plan was thwarted late this morning by some psychologically unhinged twit from Illinois who wandered into Alexandria, Virginia and let loose with a volley of bullets from a semi-automatic on a baseball diamond that was crowded with Republican politicians who were innocently practicing for an upcoming charity game against the Democrats. Although two of the injured are in critical condition, only the shooter has died. As is my tradition, he will remain nameless on this site. One congressman, Steve Scalise of Louisiana was shot in the hip. I'm happy to be able to inform you that he is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery very soon.
"Instant Karma's gonna get you."
John Lennon
(Another famous victim of gun violence in America)
Ironically, Congressman Scalise is one of the hundreds of politicians - from both political parties - who are nestled comfortably in the pockets of the National Rifle Association. The greatest irony is the fact that he led the charge in the House not long ago to repeal a bill that restricted mentally ill people from legally obtaining the very type of weapon that nearly killed him - only to be wounded by someone who is obviously insane. Maybe this little brush with tragedy will make him rethink his position on the subject of gun control - maybe not. I'm not going to hold my breath.
Because Scalise is a member of the House leadership, he was there with a security detail that was able to return fire and take down the assailant within minutes. Had this not been the case, we would be dealing with a massacre here. I can hear the NRA now:
"See? Some good guys with guns killed a bad guy with a gun!"
Do you seriously believe that you are "free"? Dream away.

The perpetrator in this crime was a left-leaning, former volunteer for the Bernie Sanders campaign. Already, Fox Noise is making the most of this nasty little fact. That's fine. Let them run with it to their hearts' content. We should expect nothing more and nothing less of them. They're going to be the main agent of divisiveness in the national conversation. We live in polarizing times, and we shouldn't expect things to change any time soon; although I have to say that I was quite impressed by the way Nancy Pelosi and Paul Ryan came together on the floor on the House in a rare display of unity. It was one of those fleeting kind of moments one pines for these days.
A year go yesterday, I comically mused on this site how fast legislation would fly out of Congress if an epidemic of political assassinations began in America. I hope something that horrible ever occurs. But I'm not going to kid myself into believing that what happened this morning in a baseball park in Virginia is going to change things. We'll have to adjust to living in a nation in ruins.

AFTERTHOUGHT:
AFTERTHOUGHT:
About an hour before the storm of bullets hit Alexandria this morning. I checked into Fox Noise for a quick, unintentional laugh. True to form, they delivered the goods within a minute.
The inmates of Fox and Friends were criticizing the media and the left for their reactions to Jeff Sessions' refusal to answer questions regarding his conversations with Trump, regardless of the fact that the president is not claiming executive privilege.
Said one of these halfwits, "Doesn't the left and these so-called 'journalists' understand attorney/client confidentiality?" The others agreed wholeheartedly. Having received my daily giggle I changed the channel.
The attorney general is not the president's "personal lawyer". He's the fucking attorney general of the United States!
The dumbest people on the planet Earth get their misinformation from Fox.
Think about it:
John Mitchell
Ed Meese
Alberto Gonzales
Jeff Sessions
We've had some perfectly atrocious attorneys general in my lifetime.

UPDATE, 6/15/17, 8:15 AM:
1. As I predicted yesterday, Fox Noise is running with the "left wing terrorism" slant. The last fatal political shooting of a right wing politician in this doomed country was American Nazi Party president George Lincoln Rockwell fifty years ago - and he was killed by one of his own. Predictably the easy availability of these weapons is not part of the conversation on Fox. Enjoy your stay in Idiot Nation.
2. Congressman Scalese's condition took a turn for the worse late last night. He his status has gone from being "stable" to "critical condition".
Fingers crossed. Hands folded.

Have you no shame? It was not the gun's fault it was the violent liberal's fault!
This liberal socialist from IL was a Bernie Sanders supported and volunteer, a liberal and a democrat. How dare you treat this as a NRA problem. It is a liberal problem just as is Kathy Griffin, and current Broadway play of Julius Caesar are any indication. Watch the late night TV and ask yourself did these people hate Obama this much?
The shooter belonged to anti GOP groups on Facebook named:
▪ “The Road to Hell is Paved with Republicans”
▪ “Donald Trump is not my President”
▪ “President Bernie Sanders”
▪ “Illinois Berners United to Resist Trump”
▪ “Boycott the Republican Party”
▪ “Expose Republican Fraud”
▪ “Terminate the Republican Party”
How many times have you predicted the end of the GOP?
The shooter took a Democratic ballot in the primary election in 2016.
In 2012, he took part in a protest outside the downtown Belleville post office. He said he was part of a “99%” team drawing attention to the amount of money and political power the top 1 percent of Americans acquired.

The gunman who opened fire this morning on Republican congressmen and staffers recently declared in a Facebook post that, “It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co.”
Have you ever seen comments like this posted by liberals on your blog? I can think of two who have said almost the identical things.
"Tax the rich like Congress did for 70 years till Reagan's trickle down."
Here is a link to his letters to newspapers:
http://www.bnd.com/news/local/article156092134.html
Sounds like a rational typical liberal democrat doesn't he. Worked for Bernie, wants to tax the rich, hates the GOP.. Why he's the liberalism poster boy.
He talks about Conservatives and the GOP's being full of hate. Isn't it time liberals acknowledged that liberals have a hate problem that they are trying to pin on others?
No Tom, the words of Maxine Waters, the reporting on MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, the posts here of Dave Dubya, Mozart, New York Crank, and YOU and the actions of ANTIFA all point to the hate and rising violence of today's liberalism.
You bring up a good point Tom. What would have happened if there hadn't been good guys there with guns to stop the would-be murderer? I suppose Kathy Griffin would be even more excited at the massacre that would have ensued. Maybe Chris Matthews tingle would travel further than just up his leg.
Oh, and let's add to your list of corrupt and incompetent AG's, shall we? I give you the following:
Janet Reno (send in the tanks to Waco and send Elian Gonzales back to Cuba!)
Eric Holder (of fast & furious infamy)
Loretta Lynch (we just talked about our grandkids and not about Hillary's investigation)
I am thoroughly disgusted by nearly all politicians of each party. It amazes me how many folks on both sides are willing to make exceptions for the illegalities and shortcomings of those that share their same political ideologies.
I guess it does give bloggers and pundits something to bloviate about though, huh...?
Notice how quick Cluckie is to step up when it's a liberal doing the shooting?
Yes Clucky, let's DEFLECT from the fact that once again a crazed gunman inflicted pain and suffering upon innocent citizens. Let's somehow manage to defend trump in the Process, because THAT'S what's important.
Ironic isn't it though? I'm sure though, that like the moronic Reagan before him, our wounded congressman will fight even harder AGAINST gun control.
JFK, RFK, MLK, John Lennon, the victims of Dylan Roof, ..I think your right wing gun nuts have a MUCH better track record of death and destruction against humanity. Don't even TRY and say differently.
You don't care about stopping violence, you just need a political lever.
This ain't it.
T. Paine,
Shame on you.
Tom Degan: "The dumbest people on the planet Earth get their misinformation from Fox."
Amen. Your resident troll is no exception.
Recall my words prior to the 2016 election: "If Clinton wins, we'll have nuclear war. If Trump wins, we're have civil war."
The indicators are out there. This shooting represents just one.
Mozart, take your hate speech some where else. Yesterday you got what you wanted.
The shooter was a Bernie Boy, a liberal, a democrat, a socialist, and like you, a hater of Republicans, and Conservatives.
It wasn't the gun, it was the scum behind the gun, a poster boy for liberals and democrats if there ever was one.
The gunman was a crazed liberal democrat, which begs the question are there any moderate liberals?
Guess who else was a member of protest
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cD06x9eSFy0
Why it was the crazed liberal socialist democrat gunman.
Surprised?
Mr. Mozart, what is it I said that is shameful, sir?
Is it the FACT that more people would have been killed if good guys had not been armed to stop the bad guy?
Or do you object to my shameful facts of Democrat-appointed incompetent and corrupt AG's?
Please explain, sir.
Major,
Thank you for bringing this up. You are fool and hateful liar to equate tax policy positions with gun violence. That distraction and deception is your job, isn't it?
So you're saying there was one act of physical violence with no fatalities. (You've yet to disavow the Republican thug's assault on a journalist.)
By comparison, we have the body count of 53 dead Americans from Right Wing nuts, greater than Jihadists from 2001 to 2016.
https://www.newamerica.org/in-depth/terrorism-in-america/what-threat-united-states-today/
Between 2001 and 2016 there were more Americans killed in the US by Right Wing extremists than from Jihadists. The Orlando mass shooting raised the count to 95 to 53.
Looks like the "perfect poster boys" of con-servatism are a terror threat second only to Jihadists.
Are you proud of your Death Cult?
Mr. Paine,
It was fortunate indeed that trained professional law enforcement was there. Redneck Bubba with his shootin' iron may well have shot more innocent people in a panic. Or he would have been killed by arriving law enforcement. How the hell would they know Redneck Bubba was a "good guy with a gun"? Have you thought that part through?
Life ain't a Clint Eastwood or Charles Bronson movie.
More guns = more death. Freedom! Human sacrifice well spent. God bless the NRA!
You should be ashamed of politicizing this. When Gabby Giffords was shot, the right FREAKED when it was even suggested that it was a right wing nutcase.
MORE GUNS is not the answer. Had Obamas "COMMON SENSE gun law been passed , which over 80% of the country wanted, this would not have happened. Your heroes make it easier for guys like him to GET guns, even though it's been known for years he had mental and violence issues.
Clucky, SCREW YOU. This is what YOU wanted. A chance to blame mindless violence on a liberal FOR A CHANGE. It's never the gun is it? You always manage to sidestep the real issues.
Shame on you.
But here's the thing, YOUR heroes allowed him to aquire the guns.
Do you agree Tom that this shooting calls for a investigation into who radicalized the liberal Democrat Bernie supporter?
Clucky, how DARE you claim we "got what we wanted" while you take obvious glee in a "radical liberal" shooting people. Seriously, you need professional help.
Had the shooter gotten "professional help" there would have been no gunfire. However, most mental help services have been defunded or eliminated by conservative lawmakers. Of course had the GOP INCLUDING the wounded congressman, not voted to allow the mentally ill to buy weapons, this "radical liberal" would not have had access to his guns.
So I agree that there should be investigations into HOW he got his guns, but we KNOW what he's angry at.
He just took it farther than the other 85% of the country that are outraged at Trump and his KKKabal.
Keep your eye on the ball Clucky, the Russian investigation continues.
Majormajor, you should know that investigations are only good and purely motivated when they are directed towards Republicans and conservatives. ;)
Sharron Angle (Republican U.S. Senate candidate) in 2010:
Angle: "I feel that the Second Amendment is the right to keep and bear arms for our citizenry. This not for someone who’s in the military. This not for law enforcement. This is for us. And in fact when you read that Constitution and the founding fathers, they intended this to stop tyranny. This is for us when our government becomes tyrannical..."
Manders: "If we needed it at any time in history, it might be right now."
Angle: "Well it’s to defend ourselves. And you know, I’m hoping that we’re not getting to Second Amendment remedies. I hope the vote will be the cure for the Harry Reid problems."
Trump in 2016
“Hillary wants to abolish — essentially abolish the Second Amendment. By the way, if she gets to pick, if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know.”
There ya go ... the shooter was radicalized by Republican candidate rhetoric.
Ed: "There ya go ... the shooter was radicalized by Republican candidate rhetoric."
Violence begets violence. This president, and previous candidate, opened the floodgates to racism, bigotry, hate and mayhem. He has reaped what he has sown -- unfortunately none of it has been of a positive nature.
As the disintegration of society and the economy continue and ultimately descend into collapse, hanging from the gallows he'll realize the distasteful and bitter fruit of his making.
I'm wondering if Clucky would like us to provide a list of "Radical Christian conservatives"?
We can start with Tim McVeigh...
That's a reach. Putting the blame on the victims of liberal attacks for having caused the violence. Not even close. That's like saying America deserved the 9-11 attack.
President Obama once said that if your opponents bring a knife to a fight, you should bring a gun. Snopes says this is a true statement.
Nope, I'm pretty sure the poster boy for liberals didn't follow the advise of Donald Trump.
There have been 35 reported events of violence against conservatives since July 2016, not including the actions of liberal pin up Kathy Giffin.
http://dailycaller.com/2017/06/16/this-list-of-attacks-against-conservatives-is-mind-blowing/
The Huffington Post publishes an article calling for the execution of Trump and “everyone assisting his agenda” by contributor Jason Fuller. Pulling it only after the radicalized liberal attacked Republicans on a ball diamond.
It's time for a investigation into who is radicalizing the liberal Democrat Bernie supporters.
I suppose Kathy Griffin would be even more excited at the massacre that would have ensued. Maybe Chris Matthews tingle would travel further than just up his leg.
Mozart, take your hate speech some where else. Yesterday you got what you wanted
Shame on both of you.
Ed, with all due respect, that is bovine excrement. How many leftists have explicitly said that they want to kill Trump or Republicans just since his election?
My latest post deals with some of the hateful rhetoric from the left.
http://savingcommonsense.blogspot.com/2017/06/hate-trumps-love-from-left.html
Chuck "Majormajor" Morre: "...which begs the question are there any moderate liberals?"
Of course there are! They're known as Corporate-Democrats and they're notoriously in bed with the vast majority of corpo-Republicans and corpo-Conservatives. There's really no need to include the "corpo" prefix with the latter, however, because their allegiance is well understood.
It goes with the territory.
Is this thing on? Hello?
Maybe the 3rd time is a charm.
Ed you are correct. The Right has invoked "2nd Amendment remedies" and have killed 53 Americans between 2001 and 2016, second only to Jihadist terrorism. "Time to water the tree of liberty" is a Tea Party slogan.
Mr. Paine equates liberal words with Right wing wackos actually killing. IOKIYAR after all?
After enduring decades of smears, hate and lies from the Right, he wonders why there is no blowback? Trump has destabilized and corrupted our government, scorns basic decency, cultivated resentment and hate, and divided us as no other.
Now TP's shocked, shocked, people are angry.
The shooter was a poster boy for the left, don't try to turn the tool of his liberal violence into the problem. Its like a cult.
Context:
53 innocent Americans were killed by terrorist from the far Right. Not counting the brave men saving the Muslim women on a train...
https://www.newamerica.org/in-depth/terrorism-in-america/what-threat-united-states-today/
Between 2001 and 2016 there were more Americans killed in the US by Right Wing extremists than from Jihadists. The Orlando mass shooting raised the count to 95 to 53.
Ed and Dave also believe it's the woman's fault if she is raped.
Do you know bovine excrement when you see it, Paine? Your boy, Trump, spews it all the time. Looks like you're spewing bullshit on your blog too. A lot of those bullet points in your latest post are nonsense.
It's the Republicans who are so in love with guns. Back in February Republicans led the effort to allow mentally ill to buy guns. Lately the Republicans are pondering whether to make silencers more legally accessible. And you're blaming leftist hateful rhetoric?
Democratic leaders don't insinuate that the murder of their rivals would be a viable solution in their campaign rhetoric.
This latest shooter was yet another angry man - maybe suicidal - who had access to firearms here in gun-happy America.
Ed,
Speaking of bullshit, get a tissue, there's some on your lip.
The latest shooter was a typical Bernie boy, angry radical, liberal and violent.
"Democratic leaders don't insinuate that the murder of their rivals would be a viable solution in their campaign rhetoric."
LOL!
T.Paine
"...for some inexplicable reason, many on the Left want to go after Trump for nonsense instead of actual issues. It absolutely baffles me."
What "nonsense" would that be? Collusion and obstruction of justice are REAL issues, and are probably the tip of the iceberg.
As for Obama's "flexible" quote" it had nothing to do with fellating Putin constantly like Trump has. He certainly didn't invite the KGB to a secret meeting in the oval office.
Uhh, Mozart, reality check.
The 11-month-old investigation into whether President Trump or members of his campaign colluded with Russians has still not turned up any evidence that’s strong enough to put before a jury.
That’s according to California Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, which is overseeing one of the parallel investigations into whether members of the Trump campaign coordinated with the Kremlin to influence the outcome of the election.
“I’m not prepared to say that there’s proof you could take to a jury,” Schiff told ABC News’ Martha Raddatz on Sunday when asked if he’s seen proof of collusion.
>>how fast legislation would fly out of Congress <<
If gun control legislation ever flies out of Congress, and it could, it might read like this:
"No person other than a Congressman, Senator, or a members of a Congressional or Senate staff, or of a duly authorized branch of government providing security shall be permitted to carry any firearm within 3,000 feet of the Senate, the Congress, the workplaces of same, the residences of same, the motor vehicles of same, or the children of same. Violation of this law shall be punishable by not less than 20, nor more than life in prison. In no way shall this law be construed as a limitation upon the Second Amendment, which shall always apply in rowdy bars, crowded theaters, on highways, aboard public transportation, or in public schools and colleges, so long as no members of Congress or the Senate, or their staff members or families are not present."
Yours very crankily,
The New York Crank
Based on Tom not posting views counter to his, this site has become a "safe space" for liberals, where they will not have to face views counter to their own.
Snow flakes.
Chuck, do you realize how silly you look?
Turns out the "good guy with a gun" at the ball diamond was a not a guy. It was an African American woman, and a lesbian at that. So what do our con-servative friends think? They think she shouldn't have the same right to marry as anyone else, swell bunch that they are.
Tom
You are aware of the several entrees I've sent you and you have not published?
Not that you will publish this one.
Dave,
You realize what you posted is not original?
Not that Tom will publish this or a previous post from me.
Chuck "Majormajor" Morre: "That's a reach. Putting the blame on the victims of liberal attacks for having caused the violence. Not even close. That's like saying America deserved the 9-11 attack."
As usual, Chuck, you've made two entirely different statements and connected them as though they mean the same. Placing responsibility for creating the conditions that led to an outcome is not the same as stating the outcome was well-deserved.
But, I'm whispering in the wind. You'd never understand this.
Clucky
Uh, reality check. Trumps OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE investigation is going along fine, collusion is a done deal, and just because they haven't wrapped up the case fast enough in YOUR OPINION does not mean there is no evidence. Jeez, a local murder case can take a couple years top put together. You think that just because Trump is a moron who does everything without thinking the justice department is the same?
As for "safe space" and "snowflakes" , we all know you have your copy of the "Conservatives Big Book of clichés" You don't have to show off.
Speaking of "snowflakes" WHO is it that fires everyone who disagrees with him, cannot handle being asked even the simplest of questions, and WHINES all night on Twitter when he doesn't get his way?
Hint: It's NOT President Obama.
Awesome blog, i always enjoy & read the post you are sharing!
Thank for your very good article...!
