Little Donald's Big Mess
"Over the past week, one senior White House official and former top Trump campaign aide both independently and bluntly described the president's son as an 'idiot' - one who played a role in the campaign and Trump's political rise simply because he 'shares' the same DNA."
From The Daily Beast
It's never easy to be the president's kid. James Roosevelt was compared unfavorably to his father Franklin until the day of his death in 1990. That's also true of his five siblings. Until the moment of his own untimely death eighteen years ago this week (Where does the time go?) John F. Kennedy Jr. was the subject of so much media scrutiny you might have thought that his long-dead dad was still occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue! To his credit, young John was a little more adept at life than the Roosevelt boys, all of whom were basically parasites feeding off the legacies of Franklin and Eleanor.
Donald Trump, Jr. is something else indeed. Eric Trump has got to be feeling giddy this afternoon. Of the two brothers he's always been thought of as the dumb one. After the revelations this week of the meeting he had on June 9, 2016 at Trump Tower, that was attended by various people connected with the government of Vladimir Putin - and his subsequent release of the emails leading up to that meeting - Eric is starting to look like Albert Einstein. None of this is surprising to the people with whom Junior has regular contact with. Around the White House he is called "Fredo", a reference to the middle, not-too-bright Corleone brother in the film, The Godfather. Donnie won't be the reason his father's presidency will crash and burn, he is merely the final straw that broke the back of an administration that was doomed to self-destruct at noon on January 20, 2017.
Also attending the meeting were the Donald's then-campaign manager Paul Manafort (a man with so many Putin connections, he was forced to resign late in the summer when certain journalists began to smell something quite foul with regard to the relationship between Trump and Russia) and son-in-law Jared Kushner, who has now been exposed as having yet another covert meeting with Russians that he neglected to mention when he was being vetted for reasons of security prior to the inauguration. This morning it was reported by NBC News that one of the Russians present on this day was a "former" counter-intelligence officer who had also served in the army of the former Soviet Union.
Although the then president elect was in the building at the time, Junior says he knew nothing about the meeting. I'm willing to bet the farm that the hideous old freak was indeed present.
Initially the reason given for this meeting was the adoption of Russian orphans. This claim has been forever debunked by the release of the emails, which clearly indicate that the whole purpose was to obtain some dirt on Hillary Clinton.
We're less than six months into this completely unhinged administration. Bad as things look this early, by January 20, 2017, it's not too difficult to foresee Idiot Nation being bogged down in the most devastating constitutional crisis in its 241 year history. Maybe we're already there. Whatever the case, this situation cannot possibly continue for another three-and-a-half years. We have a choice of Donald Trump's tenure ending very badly - or catastrophically.

Great piece, Tom. The vulnerability of the Trump Administration is becoming more apparent with each passing day. It's also becoming more apparent why he's attacked the media with such vengeance from day-one.
Without creating doubt in the minds of his true loyalists of the media's validity, he realized when the revelations of his collusion with both foreign governments and certain titans of industry in manipulating the 2016 presidential election started to rear its ugly head, he wouldn't be able to stave off the onslaught from the citizenry. So far his base is buying into his excuses and lying. One has to wonder for how long.
It won't matter. People Like Clucky will still DENYANDEFEND till the end. They will deflect to other "liberal" scandals, 99% of which will already have been proven false, and the other 1% completely irrelevant.
The GOP is trying to take healthcare away from 30 million people, many disabled combat vets and the elderly.
But hey, those poor, abused billionaires need another tax cut.
Meanwhile, It's now pretty obvious that the entire Trump administration is in DEEP shit over this Russian collusion investigation. Hannity flip flops from "it never happened" to "collusion isn't illegal" (both WRONG). Donnie Jr. spilled the covfefe and now the damage control is in high gear.
I didn't even mention how Trump's embarrassed the nation every time he goes overseas.
It would be hilarious to watch if it were not so tragic.
Despite all the foaming of the mouth from some of the loving folks on the Left, I suspect that even this revelation will not be the cause of a successful impeachment of Donald Trump.
First, articles of impeachment must be passed successfully out of the House of Representatives. Right now, for good or ill, there is nowhere near enough public outcry except in far left circles to demand this. Even in the unlikely event that the Democrats were able to regain control of the House in another year and a half, there will be nowhere near enough votes in the senate to remove Trump, barring any other truly momentous findings that are brought to light.
I admit that Trump (or his deputies) were foolish and suffering from a deficit of integrity to ever agree to meeting with the Russians regarding "dirt on Hillary". Putin must be laughing his ass off that he has so severely damaged the credibility and integrity of both Hillary and Trump in their avaricious quests for power and/or money.
Further, all of the major powers, including the U.S. have tried to influence the elections of our adversaries and even sometimes our allies for generations. (i.e. Obama and Israel) The bottom line is that to date I have seen no evidence that the Russians' attempts were successful here.
Mozart, actually one of the few good things that Trump has done is go in and fire many head people and clean house in the VA to put that house back in order so that our vets are taken care of appropriately. As for repealing Obamacare and "taking away healthcare from 30 million people", well first of all, evidently the spineless piece of *&$% Republicans cannot even remember that they were elected to repeal that monstrosity so that they could replace it with something that actually would help Americans. Feel free to continue on with your socialist class warfare crap though.
Next, Trump's speech in Poland was very well received and perhaps the best speech he has given to date. Of course you wouldn't know that because Rachel Maddow and the Daily Kooks still excoriated him.
Trump is a liar and corrupt. You are a damned fool though if you think Hillary would all of a sudden change her stripes after decades of REAL scandals, lies, and corruption to be a shining beacon as president.
Republican or Democrat, we have all gotten the corrupt and broken government we deserve now.
The extra guy in the room, including an interpreter, is being represented as a lobbyist. The fact remains the he was a Russian military officer in counter intelligence. There is no reason to believe his loyalty to Russia has changed any or that he isn't involved in espionage. The fact remains that Donnie and the campaign advisors knew this going into the meeting, looking for dirt on Clinton from Russia. Sure appears like collusion and, at the very least, Kushner's security clearance should be pulled. But, that isn't likely to happen since Trump has set up a Russian style family monarchy.

All that typing just to apologize for the Obvious collusion within the Trump campaign and administration? Come on man, the jig is up. Even the GOP leadership is getting tired of being embarrassed. They can get someone else to rubber stamp their fascist agenda, how long to you think they will put up with the national DISGRACE that is Trump?
Oh and Clucky, thanks for proving everything I said. I knew I could count on you.
Trump won't be impeached because the Republican House is as corrupt and morally empty as the Trump cartel.
It's not about "public outcry" at all. It is about the Constitution and the law. Millions have marched, and Trump obstructed justice. The authoritarian Republicans will stand by their Dear Leader.
Trump's speech in Poland was very well received and perhaps the best speech he has given to date
The Right wing Polish government bussed in Right wing Poles to cheer "fake news" for Trump. No wonder it was a hit. “They have been fake news for a long time,” Trump said of CNN.
“Just as Poland could not be broken, I declare today for the world to hear that the West will never, ever be broken,” he said, to more (applause.) “Our values will prevail. Our people will thrive. And our civilization will triumph.”
Trump's "Triumph of the Will" of the "West" speech. Hmm, I wonder who he means by "our values, our people, and our civilization". We know basic decency, democracy, and honesty are definitely not his values. We know he is also a fan of torture. So we have a pretty good idea of who his notion of "our people" is.
It's interesting Trump attacked the US intelligence agencies, on foreign soil, instead of Republicans when he said these words in his "best speech".
“Everybody was 100 percent sure that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. They were wrong, and it led to a mess.”
(No. Not "everybody".)
Sorry, Mueller will undoubtedly present damning evidence, including facilitating money laundering, obstruction of justice and yes collusion on the level of espionage that will result in Trump's resignation to avoid impeachment. We need a public option, if it single payer, to deal with the ridiculous healthcare situation in our country and these gutless GOP "bought and paid for" billionaire lovers will go down as the most derelict politicians of all time. Good luck with your anti-Hillary rant, but she's not POTUS.
Michael,
We could raise the top tax rate beck to 90% and the richest families in the USA would STILL be the richest families. The top rate was 90% in the 50's and the economy THRIVED. There is no time in history when a tax cut helped the economy. TAXES ARE HOW WE PAY FOR STUFF. Rich people use all the benefits of taxation, why don't they think they have to participate?
As for them being Rich, THEY claim to follow Jesus.

I don't know for sure. The Democrats were stupid enough to put up with the national disgrace that was Obama for eight years! I am sure the Republicans think they can do one better with the national disgrace of Trump. I, for one, wish we could get honorable people on both sides to run for president instead of national disgraces like these last two.

lol. Yep, ignorance of history only means that we will be obligated to repeat it. So did that piece of false propaganda come from Paul Krugman or from the "brilliant" Rachel Maddow, sir?

Sorry guys, this is not a black and white world.
Generally, while tax cuts have helped inject money into the economy, it was from cuts to lower earners and middle class. Their few hundred dollars would be re-circulated into the economy. Tax cuts for the rich haven't been shown to boost the economy. They keep or invest the money. That is no help, especially to a local economy.
I'm sure Mr. Paine is far more educated by his conservative beliefs on these matters than Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman and Rhodes Scholar Maddow.
As far as a "national disgrace" goes, world opinion is far removed from Mr. Paine's simplistic equivalence.
There is no comparison, except in the minds of those who hate Obama and still give Trump more credit than he deserves. However, Putin's popularity is on the rise in con-servative and GOP World. They should know, amirite?
When the general population is given a tax cut or rebates which was done under Obama the money is spent immediately which drives up Demand for all goods and services. That increased Demand creates jobs.
When tax cuts are given to the 1% they store the money in financial investments, stock buy backs and off shore accounts. These type of tax cuts do not create jobs because the only time a business owner hires more people is when he is forced to when over time pay costs more than new employees.
T. Paine,
I don't get where you find Obama to be a "national disgrace" when he left with a 60% approval and the respect of all our allies.
The ONLY reason he's not still President is that the GOP was embarrassed by FDR and passed the 2 term limit law. Hell, without that Bill CLINTON would probably still be POTUS.
The ONLY reason the GOP wins is that you cheat. You sure don't represent the VAST Majority of AMERICANS ( You do probably represent Putin's interests)
I stand by MY statement, that IN NO TIME IN HISTORY HAS A TAX CUT HELPED THE AMERICAN ECONOMY. It's helped the uber rich become richer, but it's HURT the nation as a whole.
I could not help but notice that you provided no evidence I was wrong, but I will say that MSNBC and especially Maddow have become the last gasp of HONEST reporting in this country. The more you cons attack em, the more YOU look bad, not them.
