just say "BENGHAZI"!!!

"With all due respect, the fact is we had four dead Americans. Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night decided that they'd go kill some Americans? What difference, at this point, does it make? It is our job to figure out what happened and....prevent it from ever happening again, Senator."

-An understandably exasperated Hillary Clinton

The extreme right wing of America's political spectrum (which translates into the entire Republican Party these days) has got one hell of a problem. They are unable to to reach out to the American people on  the basis of their ideas because - let us face the hideous facts - those ideas are atrocious. What to do? That's easy: Just conjure up a few imaginary phantoms. That is what is behind these Benghazi investigations. Their motive is not to get to the "truth" of what happened on September 11, 2012 when our embassy in Libya was attacked and four Americans were killed. We know the truth. We've known it for a long time. What they are attempting to do is simply destroy the campaign of Hillary Clinton, who was secretary of state when the attack took place, and whom every poll shows will be virtually unbeatable in 2016. The fact that they will piss away untold millions of taxpayer cash on this kangaroo court or that they are deflecting our attention away from issues that are screaming to be addressed means nothing to these clowns.

Forget the fact that sixty people were killed in assaults upon American embassies during the years in which the halfwit from Crawford, Texas was running the government. Forget the fact that one month and six days before September 11, 2001 he was warned in his daily briefing that Osama bin Laden was planning on striking in the United States very soon - and that the First Fool did absolutely nothing to try and prevent it. Forget all of that. Reality is a luxury that a nation filled to the rafters with distracted robots can ill afford.

Oh, and while we're at it, let's all forget the nasty little reality that in the months leading up to September 11, 2012, the Republicans in congress slashed funding on embassy security worldwide. Don't even bring it up, okay?

Just take a look at the damage the GOP is doing to your country. I've said it here too many times to count but I need to repeat myself: Forgive me for sounding like a broken record but that isn't a political party; that's an organized criminal enterprise. Sooner or later the pathetic sheep in this doomed country that try to pass themselves off as an "informed electorate" are going to wake up to that fact. When that happens, I'm afraid that it'll be too late.

Listen to them pretty chimes of doom, baby!

FOR THE RECORD: I'm not beside myself with joy over the idea that - barring scandal or catastrophe - Hillary Clinton will almost certainly be the next president of the United States. Her progressive credentials are less than adequate as far as I'm concerned. I realize that we're centuries overdue for a "Madame President" but the prospect of Ms. Clinton in the Oval Office until the year 2025 is enough to send me tailspinning into a blue funk that will not be easy to recover from. There are a few damned good reasons why I am no longer a Democrat and she is one of those reasons. My only consolation is that the alternatives to Hillary are too vile to even make an attempt at contemplation. I'll learn to live with her I guess. She might even surprise me. Who knows?

Of this you can be sure: If something were to happen to Hillary tomorrow; were she to bow out of the race or, God forbid, die - this "controversy" (if  that's what you insist upon calling it) would disappear overnight. This is all about politics - nothing more. Can't you smell the elephant shit?

Darrell Issa
What is happening now does not necessarily anger me - in fact I'm looking forward to the clown show. It's just scads of fun watching the Republicans' self-crucifixion. Almost every pundit out there is predicting that the midterm elections in November are going to go very badly for the Democrats. I'm going to go out on a limb here by predicting that that won't be the case. With each passing day the conservatives are foolishly compounding the damage they're doing to their "cause" - such as it it. It really is too good to be true.

So sit back, grab a brewski, and enjoy what promises to be the political train-wreck of the year. I'm gonna be loving every minute of this.

A Moveable Feast
by Ernest Hemingway

"There is never any ending to Paris and the memory of each person who has lived in it differs from that of any other. We always returned to it no matter who we were or how it was changed or with what difficulties, or ease, it could be reached. Paris was always worth it and you received return for whatever you brought to it. But this is how Paris was in the early days when we were very poor and very happy."

-Ernest Hemingway

This is the closest Hemingway ever came to writing an autobiography. It covers the years he spent in Paris, 1920 to 1926. It was published in 1964, three years after his death from a self-inflicted shotgun blast. At the time his widow, Mary, was unfairly criticized for putting it out. Although not his best book (by far) it adds to our understanding of him, I think.

Mark Thompson on SIRIUS Progressive has turned the word Benghazi into kind of a greeting. He figures that if We start saying it as often as conservatives, it loses it's power. I have been practicing the greeting Heil Benghazi! Because according to conservatives, Benghazi is now like Hitler, right? It has been the only fun I could wring from this propaganda invasion....

My limited understanding is that this was not an embassy - but a somewhat secret CIA outpost; an interrogation outpost. If this is true, then I can understand why a country as volatile as Libya would be up in arms and want it out of their country - at all costs! Uprising fully justified on their behalf.

To make such an alarming and extremely costly issue out of this is beyond comprehension and reprehensible.

Experts said there are valid reasons to treat Benghazi differently from the earlier attacks.

"Is Benghazi different? Absolutely," said Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and an adjunct assistant professor in Georgetown University’s security studies program.

One reason, he said, is that an American ambassador died in the attack, which hadn’t happened since the 1970s. Another relevant question, Gartenstein-Ross said, "is whether what happened was put to the American people in an honest manner, not just with respect to the administration, but also with respect to the intelligence community."

Gartenstein-Ross added that he wasn’t endorsing "how the Republicans go about" investigating this question. But he did say it’s a "real, legitimate question."

"As always, what causes the problem is not so much what happens, but the response to it," said Theodore R. Bromund, a senior research fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation. "‘If the administration had come out shortly after the attack and said, ‘Our consulate was attacked by organized Islamist forces, and we will pursue these terrorists and bring them to justice, one way or the other,’ I very much doubt there would be much juice in these hearings, if indeed they were being held at all."

Lance Janda, a military historian at Cameron University, agreed that Benghazi brings up important issues.

"We probably should have had more United States forces on site or at least nearby," he said. And the administration had a "muddled response in terms of releasing information," he added.

Of the attacks listed while Bush was in office, 11 Americans were killed, not 60.

The Righties would rather believe that happened on Clinton's watch. It is called denial. They don't want to discuss it and will continue to ignore the fact it was a Bush Administration failure equal to his war in Iraq.

Together over 7,000 Americans died under Bush's failed leadership.

No wonder they desperately want to blame the Black Guy for the deaths of 4 Americans.

Now regarding Tom's post. If the end of the GOP would be the best thing that could happen to America, and if, as it has been claimed here, on MSBNC and by members of the DNC that to have a special House investigation on Benghazi will ruin the GOP and cost them the NOV elections, then why would any democrat or liberal or both, want to stop them? If what they claim to be true turns out to be true, then what have they got to lose by encouraging the GOP to hold their investigation.

Tom, do you thing we should review the events and actions leading up to the events of 12/07/1941? Lots of Americans died there as the result of a sneak attack.

In April, Rev. Manuel Sykes was the only official Democratic candidate in the 13 Congressional district in Florida when he received a bullying call from the Pinellas County Democratic chairman telling him to get out of the race in favor of another candidate, a white candidate, Ed Jany. Jany has since dropped out of the race under a cloud of having exaggerated some of his background.

The Chairman made it very clear to Sykes that Democrats thought he stood less of a chance because he was running in an overwhelmingly “white district”. So not only were they being offensive to him, but they were making an offensive judgment about the district in general.

Sykes says the message they were sending was, “stay in your place”, you can represent us locally, but you have no place in Washington. “This is their message”, Sykes said, “We want your vote, but the rest you stay out of”.

Harry Chuckie is blathering idiocy and nonsense again.

Yeah maybe the GOP "War On Women" has partners in a corporatist Administration, a Cheney-parroting war mongering corporate media outlet, corporate America, and a corporatist State.

Con-servatives want a Big Government to monitor every uterus and deny women equal rights of reproductive choice. They are unable to see that this contradicts their “small government” dogma.

Anyone who believes Obama and the NYT are not corporate owned is out of touch with reality. How can they ignore the facts that Obama appointed a telecom corporate lobbyist to the FCC and allows for, and promotes, secret corporate drafted trade agreements? Only fools or the mentally challenged believe this is liberalism.

But then liberalism is a mental disease.

Classic Radical Right Bubble Cult projection from a clueless person who has no idea what liberalism is. But we do know delusional beliefs indicate a “mental disease”.

American con-servative fundamentalists think planet Earth is only six thousand years old. This is delusional.

RRBC Con-servatives believe in ACA death panels, and a Marxist Muslim in the White House. This is delusional

RRBC Con-servatives believe 97% of climate scientists are wrong, and that Rush, the GOP and its oily owners are the experts on climate. This is delusional

RRBC Con-servatives believe the exclusive agenda of the greediest billionaires is what’s best for America. This is delusional.

RRBC Con-servatives believe Obama is to blame for the Benghazi attack. (But Reagan was not accountable for Beirut, and Bush is not accountable for torture, Iraq, and 9-11.)

Mental disease is clinging to delusions that deny reality and overwhelming evidence.

By all objective measures, RRBC con-servatism is a mental illness.

They are writing and forming our laws.

This is all good to the RRBC con-servatives, and supported by Republicans everywhere.

USA TODAY

"Rumors about the demise of U.S. gasoline demand have been greatly exaggerated.

Until late 2013, most energy observers forecast the world's most reliably gas-guzzling market to consume less fuel this year. What was once thought to be a structural decline in demand, however, has proven more durable than expected.

As the summer driving season nears, retail gas remains stubbornly lodged near $4 per gallon. According to the Energy Information Administration, gas prices rose for 12 straight weeks through late April, and were 20 cents a gallon higher than the same point last year.

So what gives?

"The world's not swimming in crude or gasoline yet," said Francisco Blanch, commodities strategist at Bank of America-Merrill Lynch, in an interview. "Despite all the crude and gasoline production in the U.S., international markets are not tagging along."

International developments matter, analysts say, because gas prices are linked to internationally priced Brent crude. Turmoil in Ukraine and spotty supply from the perennially unstable Middle East has conspired to keep oil above $100 per barrel."

The president pledged a year ago to send $20,000 of his 2013 salary back to the treasury as a symbolic gesture to furloughed employees
Most of the furloughs never materialized, and Obama's promised salary give-back may also have dissolved with the passage of time
The joint tax return he filed with the first lady shows no indication of a rebate to the Treasury – something he would logically have deducted from his taxable income
Federal law sets the president's salary at $400,000, making it impossible for the president to reduce his pay without writing a check for the balance

Actually, the V.A. system works very well, and has a higher average patient satisfaction than civilian hospitals.

Their current problems are due to an overwhelmed admission system for new patients that still relies on old fashioned folders up to 4" thick to be processed to get a new veteran into the health care system.

Once you're in the system, the care is great, and the services are reliable.

The only place the VA is being accused of basically what sounds criminal is Phoenix AZ. My brother is in the VA system in Portland he get excellent care. Doubtless they saved his life; so don't go blaming the whole VA for what one criminally negligent administrator was doing in Phoenix. For the most part the veterans that I know, who use the VA are very happy with their care. It has been much improved and a lot of that began under Clinton as at one time it was pretty deteriorated. That is not the case today but what happened in Phoenix should lead to felony charges of manslaughter given the loss of life due to the secret lists :(. We owe our vets all the care we promised and hopefully if that means tax increases to cover the damage from a war Republicans wanted, they'll be all for paying for what we claimed we would do. It's the least we can do given how some have suffered due to that war.

Obama and his surrogates have claimed he learned of several other scandals from broadcast or print news stories
They include Operation Fast and Furious, the IRS's targeting of tea parties and a DOJ seizure of two months of Associated Press phone records
VA medical centers stand accused of keeping secret off-the-books waiting lists in order to cook the books and boost performance stats
As many as 40 veterans died in Phoenix when they were denied critical care because their names didn't appear on official waiting lists.

How much more crap will you swallow in an attempt to bolster this abject liar and a failure we have for president?

VANCOUVER—Canada’s growing wait times for health care may have contributed to the deaths of 44,273 Canadian women between 1993 and 2009, concludes a new study released today by the Fraser Institute, an independent, non-partisan Canadian public policy think-tank.

The study, The Effect of Wait Times on Mortality in Canada, examines the relationship between mortality rates and lengthy wait times for medically necessary care in Canada. As wait times between referral (from a general practitioner) and treatment increase, finds the study, so does the rate of female mortality.
