BREAKING NEWS: Ken Lay Is Dead

The word has just come over the television (MSNBC) that Ken Lay has died of an "apparent heart attack" in Aspen, Colorado.

How convenient.

If you'll be kind enough to consult my posting of a little over three weeks ago (Skilling Me Softly With His Song) I speculated that Lay was blackmailing this administration. He was more-than-likely doing everything humanly possible to force a pardon out of George W. Bush. Remember, he was one of the attendants of Dick Cheney's infamous Energy Task Force meetings in the spring of 2001. Cheney went to court to keep the minutes of that little briefing classified and even defied a federal court judge who ordered him to make them public. Cheney's motivation was, no doubt, due to the fact that what they had planned for the American consumer was probably not in the best interest of the public. Truth be told, it's a fairly sure bet that their intent was criminal. Shortly after those meetings, Lay and co-defendant, Jeffrey Skilling, were able to create a fake energy shortage that sent California utility rates through the roof. All he had to do was to come clean on national television and expose the truth for the whole world to see. What was to stop him?....Oh yeah, right....Death. Dying certainly does have a tendency of putting a cramp in one's style, doesn't it?

Am I being paranoid when I say that there is a good possibility that he was murdered by the Bush Mob? Maybe. In all likelihood he probably did die of natural causes. When one takes into consideration the stress he must have been under, it's not out of the question. Lay seemed to be in perfect health for a sixty-four year old man but looks can be deceiving. I once knew a thirty-six year old man, the picture of health - almost three decades Lay's junior - who, early one morning, dropped dead of a heart attack. Yet given the blood thirsty history of the Bush White House, homicide is not beyond the realm of probability - Not at all. One can hardly blame me for being skeptical. Don't forget, this is an administration, after all, that is responsible for over one-hundred thousand deaths in Iraq. This is a president, after all, who, as governor of Texas, used to get positively giddy with joy at the prospect of sending people of even questionable guilt to the death chamber. And please remember that he presided over more executions than any other governor in American history. He just had to prove that he was "tough on crime", you know?

What's one more body to these contemptible jackals?

Rest in peace, Kenny Boy.

Note to Jeffrey Skilling: You'd better watch your back, Buster! These murderous bastards play for keeps. Think I'm kidding?.... Ha! Ha! Yeah, I'm just kidding....I think....

Pray for peace.

PS: If you click on comments to "Skilling Me Softly With His Song", you'll find that three of the readers of "the rant" (Stoney 13, MJW and myself) predicted that Lay and/or Skilling would probably end up dead. Rocket Science? Nah! Common sense! Or is it pure paranoia? Who the heck knows!

Exactly my first thought when I checked my computer just a couple of minutes ago and saw the announcement, Bush dodged not a bullet but a morter round. What you want to bet they cremate him? Damn fast.

I commented in your June 12, 2006, entry: "I hope Lay and Skilling don't hold out too long waiting for that bribed pardon. I want one of them to lose faith and sing right away, because, as stoney13 implies, they may not live long. Lay and Skilling should both be smart enough to realize that possibility themselves."

I honestly didn't think it would happen THIS FAST! I hope he has duplicates of the Energy Task Force evidence safely tucked away somewhere (such as in the vaults of the now beleaguered New York Times), with orders that it be revealed to the world upon his death.

If not, then let's hope Skilling is making plans right away.

Oh yeah. You sure are a fast writer, Tom. I couldn't have seen the MSNBC report too long after you did, yet you already had this entry posted. You're pretty fast.

I apologize for posting three in a row, but I keep remembering something else. I recently watched a clip of an actual congressional hearing from the late 1970s. Someone (CIA? FBI?) was testifying to the committee about a pistol that shoots a very tiny ice dart that causes a person to die of a heart attack. When it melts, it leaves no trace, except for the tiny pin-prick entry hole. Senator Barry Goldwater was holding the pistol and commenting on it to one of the other senators. It isn't stuff of conspiracy theories or science fiction, unless you consider Goldwater to be a science-fiction character.

a whodonefan as well as a history buff, there a number of ways to murder someone without a trace.I have always had a suspicion of George Shultze's death, he died at a very convenient time, wasn't Nixon President?

Gee! And on the day before President Pork Pie's birthday, no less! I'm sure that The Comander and Thief had something to do with it! Convenient deaths usually turn out to have a lot of help!

Skilling's next people! Watch our score-cards! After that Scooter will either get a pardon or a plot! Take your pick! Cheney WILL be called to testify if it goes to trial! Cheney WILL be sworn in, and he WILL answer questions put to him by the court! If he lies, he WILL be charged with perjury!

Even though the case has been put off untill after the midterm elections, there will be uncomfortable facts brought to light! If Cheney's smart, he will chuck it all in and haul ass ala Spiro Agnew!

Just saw My Yahoo page that the soldier who committed the rape and family murder in Iraq was discharged for Personality Disorder. No discharge date given

mjw! I remember your and Stoney's comment. I also made a similar comment on AlterNet and have been digging through my files, trying to locate it. Did Lay die of natural causes? Maybe. Maybe not. It's certainly within the realm of probability. I wonder if Wilma is correct and he's quickly cremated.
Peace!

I would'nt doubt that "Kenny Boy" will get the quick toasting! Problem is that fresh shit burns real slow!

NOW they are going to give him a pardon (of sorts) since he's dead! It seems that if you are convicted, but not sentenced before you die, you get exonerated because the courts don't want to inconvenience the corpse!

This is the same court system that locks people for smoking a green weed! How in the world did things get SO fucked up???!!!

Not paranoid at all, dear Tom!!

Cliff Baxter was found shot in his car right before he was supposed to provide evidence against the others: http://tinyurl.com/fuwsx

Because of his membership in Cheney's Supersecret Energy Clubhouse, Kenny-boy knew where a good many of the bodies are buried ... & he could very easily have cut a deal to reduce his sentence by sniffing out a few of those corpses.

Made him a bit of a liability, no??

I hate (to put it mildly) the New York Times for having helped the Bush Administration to frame Iraq regarding weapons of mass destruction (also for their general, overall enabling of that mentally handicapped misfit and his puppeteers these past five years). However, the victim of my enemy is my friend (my own paraphrasing); and now that the Times is facing possible victimization by the Bush street thugs for having published the report of the bank-records spy scandal, I once again say that I hope they have Lay's Energy Task Force notes and are even now preparing them for publication in a secret CIA-proof vault several floors beneath a run-down McDonald's Restaurant in Queens.

I've been on a roll these past four years when it comes to predicting the future with regard to this Administration. It would be somewhat of a pleasant surprise if I was right again. ;-)

Friday 7 7 06 CBC just informed me of the big "foiled" terror plot on NYC. Is anyone else saying "Yeah and George Bush won 2 eletions."?

Tom, I just wanted to tell you that when I heard the news I immediately thought of you. I also wondered if it could have been murder or even suicide--you can't take it with you, true, but you can keep it in the family.

Do you think Skilling really believes this death was natural, or do you think there might be a nagging thought at the back of his mind it would be an excellent idea to take his lumps and keep his mouth shut?

Dearest Mazel,
There IS something awfully fishy here. Nothing would surprise me at this point. One thing is certain: There will be alot of suicides within the Bush administration as the chickens come home to roost. That's ALWAYS the coward's way out and, in case you haven't noticed (I'm sure you have), this administration is absolutely stinking with cowards!
Cheers!

Conventional wisdom is saying in effect the whole thing will be swept under the rug since Kenny Boy is dead meat. We will never know but what do you want to bet Mrs Kenny Boy turns over the smoking gun and lives out her life a rich widow?

I expected better journalism from you, Tom. People die of heart attacks all the time. This sort of argument is just as specious as the claim of the right wing extremists (I REFUSE to describe them as 'conservatives) that Bill and Hillary Clinton murdered Vincent Foster.
Ken Lay is, I hope, receiving his just desserts in another world. I hve to believe that this is true. But do not fall victim to the same paranoid fantasies that currently disgrace much of what passes for political discourse in this country.

Dear Nancy,
I was just speculating as to what if, so to speak. The poiunt of the piece was not to put forward any theories but to say that, given their violent history, one could be forgiven for being suspicious.
Cheers!

I think Ken Lay killed himself, probably used Potassium Chloride. He was determined not to spend one minute in prison. He had probably asked his buddy Dubya to pardon him, after he was sentenced. However, with the elections at hand, Bush must have told Kenny Boy he'd have to tough it out until the end of the year. Lay felt betrayed and out of options. Cheney would make sure that the coroner would rule the death due to natural causes. Cheney wouldn't want the real tale to be told, and thrives on secrets and backroom deals anyway. I wonder if Lay will be cremated. If he is, you can bet the farm that he didnt die of natural causes.

Saw a breathless newsie inform me Kenny Boy was buried yesterday, no hint where. Wonder if it will be a well-kept secret where unless he was cremated for fear of {ahem} people urinating on his grave

Another one for you, Tom: Are Enron Bankers/Witnesses Being Murdered?

At 12:00 AM, Blogger MJW said...

I cannot believe it! Twenty seconds after I posted the previous comment, Mike Malloy on Air America Radio commented on the very story to which I had linked. He asked, "How many Enron murders does that make now? Four or five?"

How's that for a coincidence?

Now that Kenny-Boy has allegedly been instantly vaporized, or cremated as it may be, it makes me wonder. Is he in fact dead? I would keep an eye on the little wifey-poo and see what far away island she settles on in the near future. Then check out who she hangs with. I don't know, maybe it's just the investigator in me, but something's not right here.

"Oh Kenny Boy"
Done to the tune "O Danny Boy"

Oh Kenny Boy
The banks, the banks are calling
From coast to coast and even overseas
The money's gone except for what you pocketed
Oh Kenny Boy, Oh Kenny Boy
You're such a sleeze

But call me back
When George was my good buddy
When we brought California to her knees
Those days are gone
and shrub boy doesn't know you
Oh Kenny Boy
Oh Kenny Boy
You're on your own.

Oh Kenny Boy
There is no prosecution
For friends of George
who should be friends of Bill
The countries swirling down the drowning toilet
It's you, it's you, have put here where she is
And you don't care what happens to your country
Indeed you are a worthless piece of shit
There comes a day for you and dick and george
To burn in hell and it is not so far away.

Oh, and thanks to Tom, for having the space, and Les Visible for having the time.
Bring back the Weathermen.
