Cheney Trouble
When the democrats re-take control of the House and Senate in the early hours of 2007 (Oh please! Oh please! Oh please!), they're going to find themselves in the same predicament that a previous generation of dems got bogged down in way back in 1973. By the late summer of that year, if you'll remember, it was "perfectly clear" that Richard M. Nixon was up to his ears in impeachable offences. The so-called "Watergate Affair" had all but destroyed his second term. His former Attorney General, John Mitchell, not to mention key aids, Bob Haldeman and John Ehrlichman, were out of power and on their way to the slammer. So what was the big deal? All they had to do was impeach the hideous bastard, right? No problem!
Problem....
Nixon's number two man was the guy who put the "vice" in the vice-presidency; The most corrupt VP since New York machine politician and Tammany Hall veteran, Chester Allen Arthur, served in that same capacity under President Garfield ninety-two years earlier - A contemptible political hack by the name of Spiro T. Agnew - "Ted", to his friends. The very idea of removing Dick Nixon from power and replacing him with someone as thoroughly disgusting as Agnew was as disturbing a thought as....well.... removing George W. Bush from power and replacing him with someone as thoroughly disgusting as Dick Cheney. A very depressing scenario any way you slice it.
Then in October a miracle of fate intervened. Poor old Spiro was busted for accepting bribes while governor of Maryland and as vice-president. He promptly submitted his resignation and, within a matter of days was replaced by a far more palatable, moderate republican congressman from Michigan named, Gerald R. Ford (Yes, folks! There used to be such a thing as a "moderate republican"). From that moment on, Nixon's presidency was toast and jelly. Ten months later, on August 9, 1974, the Trickster was sent a'packin' off to San Clemente for a bitter and well-deserved exile. Gerry Ford was now the president of the United States.
I'm not revealing any state secrets here when I say that there is a mountain of evidence - not just circumstantial evidence - but hard, clear, tangible, in-you-face proof that Dick Cheney needs to be removed from power and hauled off in an ox cart to Leavenworth Prison. His crimes as far as getting the United States involved in the obscenity that is now being committed against the children of Iraq is but the tip of a very nasty iceberg. Don't expect him to have the essential decency of an Agnew and resign....I can't believe I just wrote that last sentence....Trust me, that's not going to happen. The man is utterly without scruples. In fact, I believe he is sociopathic. He must be forcibly removed by an act of congress.
The first piece of business when the 110th congress convenes in January should be the impeachment and prosecution of Richard Cheney for his crimes against the people of the United States and the people of Iraq. The chances that Bush will replace him with a moderate is all but nonexistent - but on this point you may be absolutely certain: The replacement, whoever he or she may be, won't be one tenth as reckless and stupid as the village idiot from Crawford, Texas. Trust me.
Isn't it funny? When looking back across the decades, the crimes of Richard Milhaus Nixon and the men around him seem positively quaint when compared to the Bush Mob. Truth be told: The Nixon Gang is almost saintly with hindsight! I need an aspirin.
Pray for peace.

for Pitney in the 1960s. Marc Almond Deputy press secretary Brian Doyle was much of it from overseas firms. MP3 players; instead, they were just Skyline High School last week banned
I agree with every word you say Tom and ask God when I go to sleep, when I wake up in the morning and cry to him when I wake up in the wee hours which I do every night to help us rid ourselves of this slime, but fear we are as helpless as the Germans and Russians were with Stalin and Hitler. The last few days have only sent us deeper into the pit of Hell. I'm sure you read that Sentelle on the 3 judge appeals court gave Bush license to wiretap to his little hearts content and also remember his role in picking the putrid Ken Starr in the Clinton inquisition. To dig us in deeper, the Supremes handed down the no-knock decision. Another Hitler tactic, make it legal. To get rid of these obsceneties we first have to reform our judicial system. Everthing Hitler did was legal. No matter that the laws were as sick as the makers, it was legal.
What are our congresspersons (BOTH Democrats and Republicans) doing? If they were doing their jobs, Cheney/GWB would not be able to lead the country into the current mess. Common good first, please.
Yep,! With you on that! Cheney's gotta go first! Preferably to a place where his movements are stictly monitored! A place with a nice high fence, and shotguns only in the hands of the staff!
Bush is a boogeyman for sure, but Cheney in The White House would just be unacceptable! He'ld pardon President Pork Pie and close off any further investigation ala Bush 1 and Iran-Contra.
The big, wet rock these slimy bastards are hiding under must be ripped from the earth and all vermin secreted beneath rooted out and dealt with! The investigation MUST entail ALL the players and their scorecards! The option of eleventh hour pardons must be removed with nice airtight indictments! Otherwise, we'll just get more of the same!
the underlying Judiciary Committee Basically, we dont have as much levee will not come back. We are losing But Richard Petarius Jr., a cobbler and that he is pretty confident that a rape
Tom,
You are so right on this. just the thought of that cyborg Cheney in charge (officially for a change) is terrifying.
I'm back to my fantasy of Bush calling a full cabinet meeting (plus Dennis Hastert and Tom DeLay)at the White house. All are present for the meeting. Suddenly, from out of the sky, a huge meteor comes hurtling straight at the White House, crashes through the the roof, and the place (and all in it) are toast.
There's a plus side to this: first, we can rebuild it, from plans in the Library of Congress. Next, we start our government all over, from the ground up.
Okay, okay, I know it probably won't happen, but I can dream!
Let me join the other poster in saying, "Why the shades?" You're an attractive man.

Tom,
After reading of the oxcart idea I have my own!
Instead of an oxcart, (I mean really! Subject a poor ox to Cheney? Shit! That's just cruel!) we put Cheney in a rickshaw pulled by President Pork Pie! We can put a shock collar on the Comander and Thief to make sure good forward momentum is mantained at all times!
After their arrival we can raffle them to the inmate who has the most creative ideas concerning the manner and method of their containment! Of course a monetary incentive MUST be added to ensure participation in the raffle! I know there are such inmates who swing that way, but we are talking about Bush and Cheney here and... just... well... DAMN!!!!
I agree with all the postings and more. But I will say it again, WE NEED TO REFORM OUR JUDICIAL SYSTEM!! ON a happy note, Hitler and Goebbels said repeat a lie often enough and people will believe it. Maybe if we repeat the truth often enough people will believe THAT. Happy Days
Tom, what do you mean by 'BORDERLINE sociopath?'
This bunch is certifiable. There's not an ounce of compassion or empathy in them. Perhaps 'psychopath' is a more accurate description.
Ya gotta a great point there, Nancy! The both of them really ARE certifiable - no question about it! Can you believe, can you actually contemplate how far down we've come as a nation? How the hell did it come to this? And most people (unlike you and I) are blissfully unaware as to what's happening to them. FOX News, you know? And if they're not doing that, they're hung up on American Idol and Survivor. I'm embarrassed to be an American.
Cheers!

Oh we are SO not going to win the Whitehouse back because we are going to do something stupid AGAIN and run a candidate who cannot possibly win. We've done it twice in a row now and I expect that we will do it a third time.
Hillary on a winning ticket? What a joke. She could never win. Might as well just toss Al Sharpton up there with her. I am just absolutely disgusted with our inability to choose good candidates.
And as to the Cheney issue, both he and Rove should have been indicted for leaking Plame's name.
Oh sorry, I just barely skimmed over the opening paragraph - thought you said whitehouse. You said house and senate in 97. I hope you're right about those two.
See what happens when you blog, play online poker and watch tv at the same time?
Anyway, great blog, I linked to you.
