Deeper by the Day

Cohen and his Client

The raid of the offices and hotel room of Trump's attorney Michael Cohen is another major turning point in a scandal that gets darker with the passing of each day. For the FBI to have been able to obtain this warrant tells us a lot - and it's not good news for Team Trump. All of them are presently screaming about attorney/client privilege. The only problem is that if investigators have reason to believe that any lawyer is in the process of breaking the law or is covering up crimes that have already been committed, that "privilege" (such as it is) goes straight out the window and into the gutter. It's anyone's guess what, if anything, Robert Mueller has been able to obtain through this latest search, but it's an easy guess that if the info seized is half as earth-shattering as the dirt they were able to get when they raided the home of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. The president, as might be expected, is not a bit pleased with this latest turn of developments. Gee, ya think?
When the House committee looking into this mess abruptly closed down last week with the terse, "no collusion" announcement, I had a feeling then that it would only be a matter of time when hindsight would bit them on the bottoms. Those who are implying (or saying out loud) that this is a left wing witch hunt would be well advised to take a good look at some of the so-called "witches" that are doing the so-called "hunting". Most of them are life-long Republicans, some of whom were appointed by the Donald himself.

My worst fear is that Trump will use a manufactured crisis to deflect attention, and that he uses the ensuing chaos and confusion to fire the Mueller team. Don't put it past him. He (and his family) are neck-deep in illegal activities - son-in-law Jared in particular. As GOP politician Bob Corker remarked not long ago, if the president is really innocent of any wrongdoing he should act like it. He's not acting like it - not at all. In fact, given all the precious time he has wasted in the last year throwing one monkey wrench after another into this investigation, it would appear to anyone paying even minimal attention that the man is desperate. I'm sure that Mueller and his people learned a valuable lesson from the Saturday Night Massacre of October 1973. When the Nixon Gang closed down Archibald Cox's inquiry into Watergate, they immediately sealed off his office and all relevant evidence. I'm sure - I hope - that Bob Mueller and company have carefully duplicated every scrap of evidence they have and are keeping the duplicates in a secure location.
`
The plot thickens. This is turning out to be Watergate on Steroids.

AFTERTHOUGHT:

The Chuckster
One of the childhood stapes of many of us of a certain age who grew up in the New York area was Chuck McCann. His TV program and the many characters he would portray on a daily basis were always lovingly goofy and loads of fun. Yesterday, I was asked on Facebook to name one thing from my childhood that a youngster of today would not understand. My answer was immediate: "Chuck McCann". Early this morning I read over the wire that Chuck passed away yesterday in Los Angeles at the age of eighty-four. Here is a link to watch Chuck singing "Put On A Happy Face", a performance he repeated numerous times on his program:
`
He introduced me to Laurel and Hardy and the Three Stooges. For this I am eternally grateful to the man. Sleep well, Chuck.

Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz called out the ACLU on “Hannity” Monday night for being silent after the raid on President Donald Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen.

“This could be an attempt to squeeze Cohen. He’s the lawyer. He’s the guy who knows all the facts about Donald Trump,” Dershowitz said. “They can burst into the office, grab all the computers and then give it to another FBI agent and say, you’re the firewall. We want you now to read all these confidential communications. Tell us which ones we can get and which ones we can’t get.”

Dershowitz said if Hillary Clinton or a liberal were being raided, the ACLU would speak up and defend them, but because Cohen works for Trump, they’ve purposely remained silent.

“If this were the shoe on the other foot. If this were Hillary Clinton being investigated and they went into her lawyer’s office, the ACLU would be on every television station in America jumping up and down,” Dershowitz said.

“The deafening silence of the ACLU and civil libertarians about the intrusion in the lawyer-client confidentiality is really appalling,” he added.

Dershowitz is a blathering shill and crybaby for Trump's State Media. Cohen's civil liberties were NOT violated. His warrant was approved by a Republican that is still loyal to the law and country over the Party of Trump.

Con-servatives are the biggest crybabies of all. "Not fair!" Boo hoo.

The fascists of the far Right can't admit their long expensive witch hunt on Hillary failed to find criminal wrongdoing. But "very fine people" like Nazis and Trump Republicans always want to lock up their opposition and demand absolute power and one party rule.

Majormajor thinks crooked Don and his crooked lawyers are above the law. The lawyer has already admitted to paying secret hush money, a VIOLATION of campaign laws. Trump has already admitted to sex crimes and obstruction of justice.

Their latest witch hunt on Comey and Mueller and the FBI shows they are co-conspiring to obstruct justice for their foul dictator in the White House.

Time for the Party of Thugs and Crooks to go. They are traitors and crooks.

All this Trump stuff is inconsequential, here is a paragraph from an article about Russia.

"When the rule of law was destroyed in Salisbury, London and the Hauge, and the rule of fraud declared in Washington, that leaves only the rule of force in the world. the Stavka [ High command of the Russian armed forces] met in Moscow on good Friday and is ready. The foreign ministry announced on Sunday "The gravest consequences". This means one American shot at a Russian soldier, then we are at war. Not Infowar, not cyber war,not economic war, not proxy war. World war.

It is time to max out the credit cards and party before the big one hits!

I'm afraid it's coming. As you recall, Naomi Klein gave it a name. She coined the phrase, "The Shock Doctrine" -- which has been used throughout modern history to deflect attention from coups and other government policies being enacted against the will of the people.

Certainly not the last in this country, but 9/11 was one of the most memorable events. From this singular event our entire foreign policy was upended and turned on its head, new draconian laws were enacted, and a whole invisible enemy, "terrorism", was given life while the American people were manipulated into a constant state of fear. Wars were started and never ended, and a whole new piece, "surveillance", was added to the military-industrial complex.

The next stage is upon us.

Indeed. The much talked about and anticipated constitutional crisis is almost here.

Now, what follows?

"Alan Morton Dershowitz (born September 1, 1938) is an American lawyer and author. He is a scholar of United States constitutional law and criminal law, and a leading defender of civil liberties. He spent most of his career at Harvard Law School where in 1967, at the age of 28, he became the youngest full professor of law in its history. He held the Felix Frankfurter professorship there from 1993[4] until his retirement in December 2013. He is now a regular CNN and Fox News contributor and political analyst.

Dershowitz was involved in several legal cases, and is a commentator on the Arab–Israeli conflict. As a criminal appellate lawyer, he won 13 of the 15 murder and attempted murder cases he handled, and has represented a series of celebrity clients, including Mike Tyson, Patty Hearst, and Jim Bakker. His most notable cases include his role in 1984 in overturning the conviction of Claus von Bülow for the attempted murder of his wife, Sunny, and as the appellate adviser for the defense in the O. J. Simpson murder trial in 1995.

A political liberal."

Wikipedia

Just because Dershowitz disagrees with a leftist, he is called a "blathering shill and crybaby for Trump's State Media" (what ever that is) in a classical Saul Alinsky style attack. In this example we see the clear difference between a liberal and a leftist. A liberal wants to uphold the rights found in our Constitution, even for those they disagree with, while a leftist uses a scorched earth policy, paying any price to reach their objectives.

The support of even a possible violation of lawyer-client confidentiality should scare all those who support the liberty from Government that our Constitution provides. Unless their goal is to "fundamentally change America".

For the record:

"The lawyer has already admitted to paying secret hush money, a VIOLATION of campaign laws."
False: The lawyer HAS NOT admitted to using campaign funds.

"Trump has already admitted to sex crimes and obstruction of justice."
False: President Trump HAS NOT admitted to either.

Just because you WISH something happened doesn't mean it has.

Woodenman,

Based on your recent post as well as your older ones about possible war with Russia because of President Trump, do you believe, as some have claimed, that President Trump is Putin's puppet, and that the Russians worked with the Trump campaign to defeat HRC?

At 4:09 PM, Blogger Mozart1220 said...

Clucky, it is OBVIOUS that Putin has something on Trump. Is it billions in loans or is it the "pee tape"? Either way, Trump has yet to ever really criticize Putin, and in fact has fired everyone who has.

He'll "attack" Syria like he did before, warning Putin it's coming so all the assets can be moved, then he'll fire 100 million in weapons at NOTHING and claim "victory.

Every time Mueller takes another step towards Trump's obvious TREASON, Trump just distracts us with a lightshow.

Oh, and Clucky, PRESIDENT OBAMA taught constitutional law at Harvard as well. At least he learned what it all meant.

Oh and Clucky, it's OBVIOUS that Putin helped trump win. Where have YOU been? Oh yeah, watching Fox and obsessing on communist websites.

Chuck, I'll answer for James since he's busy building an ark for you and your band of crazed alt-right anarchists.

Yes, I personally believe Trump is beholden to Putin and several other Russian oligarchs, and these revelations will become very apparent as Robert Meuller's investigation is allowed to go forth unimpeded -- as, legally, it should be.

Yes, Trump is definitely acting like a guilty man. Of course, you already know this.

Let's let Special Counsel Mueller finish his constitutionally-legal work and let the chips fall where they may. Unless, of course, you feel a single individual should be above the rule of law.

Chuck, you don't believe anybody should be above the rule of law, do you?

Mozart,

Explain how Putin helped President Trump win?

What's your take on a possible war with Russia because of President Trump, especially if President Trump is Putin's puppet? Explain how that works, cause I can't find it on Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC. Further Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, and Rachel Maddow haven't explained it so we are all depending on YOU for the answer.

Don't let us down Mozart, this is your big shot Peg.

Clucky, if you would get your info from places other than Fox and AM readio, you would see OBVIOUS ways.

First off, Trump is DEEPLY in debt to Russian banks. That's established, PROVEN fact. It has been discovered by our INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES (Remember them?)that Russians hacked the DNC to get the infamous "e-mails" (from which nothing sordid has been found) which were then used as "bait" to attack Hillary. (They hacked the RNC as well, but funny, nothing made public) It's NEARLY certain that they hacked voting machines in key states.

They used social media to incite anger and divide the population (Like we needed help, we already had Fox) and now Zuckerberg (Facebook) is being grilled by congress, as if it's HIS fault. Of course, we KNOW the GOP doesn't care about helping Russians, they do it all the time. They are after Zuck over his support of Planned parenthood, but they can't shut down or REGULATE Facebook for that, can they?

There is also the interesting FACT that while Trump has trashed everyone from Brown people to the disabled, including the US military and our allies, and our intelligence community, HE HAS NEVER ONCE DIRECTLY CRITISIZED PUTIN. Not once. EVER.

Oh, he's putting on a show over Syria, but he did just like he did before. HE GAVE ADVANCE NOTICE THAT WE ARE ATTACKING, and like before Putin and Asaad have time to remove valuable assets. Trump will put on a great light show for the cameras, waste a few BILLION in ordnance, and HIT NOTHING. The last time he sent 59 tomahawks (where one would have sufficed)and that airstrip was operational WITHIN HOURS. Same with Afghanistan and the "Moab" (gotta fire the biggest bomb to compensate for the tiniest pecker, right?) and again hit NOTHING but a long abandoned tunnel system. NOT ONE CONFIRMED CASUALTY IN EITHER ATTACK. Oh wait, that's wrong. FIVE USA partisans were killed in the Syria "attack". OUR ALLIES. No enemies.

It's clear that if Trump is not willingly selling the USA to Putin, he's doing it under threat of Putin exposing Trump's, "vacations" in Russia.

You need more?

Clucky, There will be no war with Russia unless Trump is starting it so Putin can ki9ll as many of us as possible. Do you REALLY not see this as Trump's attempt to cover his loyalty to Putin? Come ON!

At 5:30 PM, Blogger Jefferson's Guardian said...

LOLOL It gets better by the day! Now it's revealed, apparently by a doorman at one of Trump's properties, that Trump impregnated his housekeeper and she had his child. (I don't know any additional details at this time.)

This is, at least, a couple of Seinfeld episodes rolled into one. LOLOL Tom, I can't stop laughing!...

Mozart,

I must admit you sure convinced me, Trump is the anti Christ.

At 9:21 PM, Blogger Jefferson's Guardian said...

Mozart, I personally believe Trump doesn't dare cross Putin, for one very good reason. Trump knows Putin has pictures of Russian prostitutes pissing all over him.

Comey said, which I know you're well aware, that Trump was obsessed with this allegation -- couldn't stop talking about it.

Trump is one sick motherf#@ker. He should be on every sexual predator database in the country. Instead, he's the president of the United States.

(So now I see Tom's worst fear is coming to fruition. This insane man is going to unleash what may potentially, and very likely, escalate into a nuclear exchange of some scope of magnitude. This horribly dangerous administration must be terminated.)

At 12:33 AM, Blogger Mozart1220 said...

Trump has started his last gasp distraction and THIS one might get ugly. Not that Trump cares. Whatever happens, it's someone else's fault. Probably Obama. And he'll be taken care of in any event, since he's been such a "good boy".

These strikes either kill or allow Putin to say we killed Russian soldiers. He declares war. Trump has already had the KGB in the oval office with electronic gear, and no American press allowed. WE FOUND OUT WHEN THE RUSSIANS PUBLISHED PHOTOS FROM INSIDE THE WHITE HOUSE. So there's THAT...

Of course Trump is a BRILLIANT military mind, and ALWAYS does the rational thing after careful consideration of all options. Yeah...uh-huh...

So now we are at all out world war..does Trump suspend the constitution "until we find out what's going on?"

Tell me that's completely out to lunch. Please. Convince me. I beg you.

"Obama dropped 26,000 bombs in 2016, and had military actions in 7 nations." ~~ Just the Facts! (aka Majormajor, ArchieBunkerNYC, and "Chuck")

"Candidate Donald Trump promised not to intervene abroad unless it was in America’s direct interest. 'War and aggression will not be my first instinct,' he said in his April 2016 foreign policy speech.

Yet President Donald Trump has proven himself much more willing to stay in costly interventions overseas — and in some cases, to escalate them significantly.

Take America’s counterterrorism campaigns. Trump followed through on his promise to 'bomb the shit' out of ISIS, dropping around 9,000 more bombs in 2017 than President Obama did in 2016. He increased America’s support for Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen while more than doubling troop levels in Somalia.

You should change your moniker to: Just the Alternative Facts! Kellyanne Conway would be proud!

Oh, by the way Chuck, how's that wall coming along? LOL
