ATTN: INMATES OF IDIOT NATION

Welcome to the Abyss, ladies and gentlemen. Enjoy your stay!

Here are the Cliff Notes, folks: The American people, in their comically amusing, infinite stupidity, have just elected as the leader of the most lethally powerful nation on the face of the earth, an agent of the Russian government. We knew as far back as September that Vladimir Putin and his gang had successfully hacked the computers of the Democratic National Committee and had released them via WikiLeaks in order to sabotage the campaign of Hillary Clinton. That's how we were able to learn about all of the dirty tricks that Debbie Wasserman Schultz and company inflicted upon Bernie Sanders' candidacy. What we didn't know then was that the Russians had also successfully infiltrated the computers of the Republican National Committee. The information in those files have not been released for the obvious reason: Putin now has the GOP and every one of its "lawmakers" in a perfect position to be blackmailed.

The Russians are coming. Hooray! Hooray!

All of the above has been confirmed by the CIA, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (in addition to fourteen other government agencies). It is almost possible - in fact it is very possible - to view what has happened as a successful coup d'état against the government of the United States of America by a hostile foreign power - with full cooperation and assistance from agents within that government - Republican Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell for instance. Old Mitch tried to move Heaven and Earth to keep this information from being revealed to the public. Only when Mitch's chicanery was exposed did he call for an investigation, telling reporters, "Russia is not our friend". That is not to imply that any of this  would have made a damned bit of difference to these Stupid Fucking Americans.

QUESTION FOR THE AGES: Is there a more perfectly reprehensible, disgusting and vile piece-of-shit than Mitch McConnell slithering its way through the halls of Congress? If there is, please, I need to know about it.

ANOTHER QUESTION FOR THE AGES: If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound if Mitch McConnell is there to deny that a sound was made? I wonder....

We did this to ourselves, America. For nearly forty years, the American voter has been playing Russian Roulette with right wing extremism. The gun finally went off on Election Day 2016. None of this will make any difference to me. I thrive on chaos, dysfunction and despair. For anyone who makes his or her name commenting on America's doom, a perspective Donald Trump administration will be the gift that keeps giving and giving. As for the rest of you? You've had it.

As a rule, men in my family tend not to live terribly far into their sixties, so I'm fairly secure in the knowledge that I won't be around to reap the cataclysm's ultimate wrath. In the meantime I plan on having quite the hearty laugh - watching with glee and merriment - while those who were foolish enough to cast their precious ballots for the likes of Donald Trump descend into their self-inflicted hell-on-earth, custom-made to order! For all the rest of you, especially the children, my heart will break; in fact it is breaking as I write these words.

To those of you who were idiotic enough to choose Donald Trump as your new "ruler": Are you still under the illusion that this was a particularly rational idea on your part? I'm just curious. You're going to deserve everything that happens to you.

I had been predicting for a decade that George W. Bush would be remembered in history as the last Republican president. A century ago the journalist, H.L. Mencken, warned us against overestimating the intelligence of the American people; I plead guilty to just such an overestimation. In the nineteen-thirties, Sinclair Lewis wrote a novel about a totalitarian overthrow of the Unites States called "It Can't Happen Here". Well, guess what: It's fucking happened here.

Good bye, America.

We might very well be beyond the point of no return.

BREAKING NEWS, 12/14/16:

A number of electors appear to be joining together in an effort to put a stop to the catastrophe that would result in a Trump presidency. We can only wish them luck. Keep your fingers crossed and your hands folded.

Trump is "an agent of the Russian government"? Have you lost your mind?

You supported HRC, she is the one who when Secy of State, allowed leaders of the Canadian mining industry, who have been major donors to the charitable endeavors of former President Bill Clinton and his family build, financed and eventually sold off to the Russians a company that would become known as Uranium One. The sale gave the Russians control of one-fifth of all uranium production capacity in the United States.

Among the agencies that eventually signed off on this "deal" was the State Department, then headed by Mr. Clinton's wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

As the Russians gradually assumed control of Uranium One in three separate transactions from 2009 to 2013, Canadian records show, a flow of cash made its way to the Clinton Foundation. Uranium One's chairman used his family foundation to make four donations totaling $2.35 million. Those contributions were not publicly disclosed by the Clintons, despite an agreement Mrs. Clinton had struck with the Obama White House to publicly identify all donors. Other people with ties to the company made donations as well.

And shortly after the Russians announced their intention to acquire a majority stake in Uranium One, Mr. Clinton received $500,000 for a Moscow speech from a Russian investment bank with links to the Kremlin that was promoting Uranium One stock…

Now, who is an agent of Russia?

For want of anything useful to contribute that might alleviate our national distress, let me ask a question instead: Has anybody besides me noticed how strongly Mitch McConnell resembles a turtle?

A bleak,sorrowful picture
lady liberty grossly defiled
the clueless, brainless masses
are hardly even riled!

at the podium there raved Trump

hack the files, cause disruption
Russia, destroy the DNC!

Holy shit! Was this a coup
our Constitution, ripped asunder
will this nightmare ever end
such, a sad malignant blunder

party, before the people
I've heard that slogan before
our small handed misanthrope
so complicit, such a whore

a bleak, sorrowful picture
lady liberty beyond repair
sacrificed like a virgin

NEWS FLASH! Nations hack other nations! Citizens in shock! Let's discuss a concept well known in the classified-info business and that is "protect the source". If your country taps a source of intel, the LAST thing you do is REVEAL the intel. Why? Answer: Because your adversary will plug that hole fast. Proof: Exactly what the DNC, Hilliary and Podesta did--after it was revealed. So the notion that the Russian GOVERNMENT revealed this intel, is pure bullcrap--and probably a ruse placed there. Again, if you had a near direct tap into your adversary's Dept of State, you'd continually MINE that well of information. Notice I didn't say it wasn't Russians--just not a state sponsored attack. There is one exception: The only possible reason would be a tit-for-tat payback against Hilliary and Obama for their hacking into the Russians for the purposes of election rigging. (Yep, they did it first...shhhh) To me the Russian's did you all a favor and a wake-up call. So dumb-butt Hilliary places stuff and even classified info on a non-secure system and no one says a word about competence? Notice all the concern lately about security? Gee...they weren't concerned about all the security breeches just a few months ago. Notice it was ok to hack Merkel's e-mails and even tap her phone by Obozo, and Merkel is our ally?

Mrs. JP, Popeye the cat and I are in a terrible way this month. I’ve made an urgent appeal at Welcome Back to Pottersville for assistance and I’ve also included a special book gift offer for those who chip in beyond a certain amount. But the bottom line is the last thing we need to worry about this holiday season is eviction.

TREASON, you want TREASON?

Try this on for size.

In the New York Times's new extensive report on the massive Russian-backed operation to hack American political and government severs—including a successful hack of the Democratic National Committee's server—the paper reveals that President Barack Obama had been "briefed regularly" on Russia's effort to target servers at the State Department, the White House, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Here's the Times:

Mr. Obama was briefed regularly on all this, but he made a decision that many in the White House now regret: He did not name Russians publicly, or issue sanctions. There was always a reason: fear of escalating a cyberwar, and concern that the United States needed Russia's cooperation in negotiations over Syria.

Now this is Treason, thank you President Obama.

A case can be made of collusion when Trump openly invited Russian hacking and interference in our election. Not only does Dear Leader have a cult of true believers, he had enough low information Americans as useful idiots voting for him anyway.

Trump isn't so much an agent of Russia, just another useful idiot helping Make Russia Great Again.

PY,

I wish I had your confidence in your theory, but it is flawed. Russia's revealing the info WAS the entire point of their pro-Trump agenda.

So dumb-butt Hillary places stuff and even classified info on a non-secure system and no one says a word about competence?

What planet are you on? Emailgate got more media time than ALL other issues combined. Try this. Dick Cheney and Colin Powell used a private server and no one said a word about competence.

If corrupting our election to help install Trump is a "favor" from, rather than for, Russia, I'll pass on any more such "favors".

Not so fast. We do not know the Russian government hacked it. A guy here in the US just said it came from a disillusioned member of the Clinton team. There is another story that it was due to a password trick played on Podesta's people. The CIA said they weren't sure but now at least some of them are with no more info. I think this is one of those things that wise people wait and see. If the Russians did, it still does not mean Putin and could be the Russians who regularly visit my blog, and who knows who they are. The ones who believe this about the Russian government all favored Clinton over Trump (Republican or Democrat). The partisan divide means those on each side believe what suits them. Time will tell whether it was Russian operatives, but it's not remotely out there yet-- unless you are a Clintonite or a Democrat.

The head of the Republican party said they asked the FBI to see if they'd been hacked and they said no evidence to indicate that. So you are repeating the NYTimes and Washington Post rhetoric.. which is far from unbiased.

Finally, nobody has said that the emails were doctored; so all it did was let Americans know what was going on behind the scene at the DNC. The left makes a big deal out of who did it and ignores what was learned.

This is one of those times I'm glad to not be a leftie or a rightie. To me neither put the interests of our country first but always the partisan rhetoric where they believe what suits them. Ugh

Rain,

The left makes a big deal out of who did it and ignores what was learned.

I have to ask again in this thread, what planet are you on? I thought you voted for Bernie, you know, the "left".

We do not know the Russian government hacked it.

Please. You sound just like Trump now. It wasn't the "government". It was operatives.

Trump openly invited Russian hacking and interference in our election. And you you repeat his "some guy" line. Do you also trust Trump over the Post and Times AND the intelligence agencies?

Mission accomplished. That's how one-party dictatorships work.

Well done. You are doing your part in making america great again.

Rain, I appreciate greatly that you reserve judgement until the facts are known and then draw conclusions accordingly instead of simply regurgitating the party's talking points. If more Americans on the left and right would inform themselves and put country above party, we would be far better off and not have had such a faustian bargain with choosing between Trump or Hillary for president simply so "our party" would have won the presidency.

While Mr. Degan seems to have gone off the rails quite a bit, I do agree that things are going to get ugly and we are getting the government we deserve.

Rain,
You’ve rallied the Righties now, haven’t you? Siding with Trump over journalism and intelligence agencies. Amazing.

Chuck,

You STILL do not know the Russian Govt hacked it!

You STILL won’t admit Trump INVITED the Russians to hack!! THAT should be enough. IOKIYAR. WTF makes people so blind?

Oh, that's right. "There’s no such thing, unfortunately, anymore as facts.” –Scottie Nell Hughes, Trump surrogate

TP,
instead of simply regurgitating the party's talking points

You mean journalism and intelligence agencies are the Democratic Party talking points?

Scottie's Orwellian statement is proven again.

Rain regurgitated Trump talking points for crying out loud. Again, WTF makes people so blind?

Facts are Trumped again. Dear Leader has now elevated his BS over all other voices.

And the three of you believe him. Chuck is a loyal Trumpist and Republican. We expect non-critical faith in Dear Leader from authoritarian followers.

Like you three, Putin hates Hillary, only he wanted to undermine our country by helping Trump. Already we have Trumpists going to Russia to make oil deals.

No corruption to see here, folks. No emails and charity donations.

Ignorance is strength comrades.

You are correct, TP. We have just what we deserve. A nation of TWO corrupt parties, low-information voters, apathetic idiots, and reality TV zombies.

Unfortunately many will suffer, as they did under the consequences of Bush and the last Republican one-party rule.

Onward, comrades! To a “Greater America”!

Being a moderate, someone who doesn't always side with either faction, I don't have to defend the parties. I can look at the 'known' facts, listen to both sides, and in many cases recognize that in history, the truth takes time to come out. Currently, I don't trust either party nor do I trust the newspapers to give the truth unless it suits their agenda.

Listening to both sides, of course, is less comforting than letting one of them tell us what we should think and know. Moderates are despised by both sides. While I did support Bernie in the primary, it was because he said he'd try to do certain things about jobs, wars, and trade agreements. I had no such assurance with Hillary given how she changed to suit what the listener wanted to hear (which she admitted and some praised as wisdom). I had to vote for her in the election based on issues that Trump had said he'd do. Now he's putting in place a cabinet to try and do them. Not much of a surprise to anybody but maybe the far left, who apparently never expect a candidate to do what they run on.

This has been the ugliest election season I ever remember and beings I am 73, that's a lot of them. The worst part has been how both sides attack the opposing voter as much as the candidate. It seems both sides only want to hear reinforcements of what they already believe. The division in this country has been here from its start and seems unlikely to change anytime soon. The insults aren't new either but they do block real discourse.

Face reality DD, HRC was the worse candidate the DNC could have run. After cheating Uncle Bernie out of the the top spot, and lying to congress and to the American public (one example: dodging sniper fire!) liberals like yourself want us to now believe HRC is the VICTIM and she could have won if it were not for the hacking by an unknown source of the DNC emails thereby exposing the DNC's corruption.

Interesting how the hacked emails never mentioned HRC's name, yet you would have us believe it was the bringing to light the DNC's dirty tricks that brought about HRC's defeat. (Was the reason for the DNC's loss of Congress in 2010 and since due to hacking?) It is also interesting how investigating HRC's use of a unsecured server when Secy of State was called by the left to be much ado about nothing then, because no one hacked into that server, but let the DNC get hacked and it's a national emergency, that only the GOP, Russia and Trump could have done.
(Side note; why didn't President Obama do anything when he was told of the possible hacking?)
LOL, talk about a double standard.

While it is accepted practice on your blog that you won't and don't answer questions, does that also apply here? If history is any indication, the answer is a resounding YES! Quite simply DD, you can not stand on your own in the free market place of ideas.

Rain is right, and makes no excuses, she is an honorable honest liberal, and you should be ashamed of for attacking with your Marxist code words.

At 3:30 PM, Blogger Darrell Michaels said...

Mr. Dubya, if you had truly been paying attention you would have seen all along where Rain and I both have strongly criticized Trump. She did not vote for him and neither did I. I will call him out when he is wrong and champion him when he is right. (Just like I did for President Obama.) Sadly the opportunities for doing so for Obama were very few and far between. I have few illusions that this will improve much under a Trump administration.

That said, your reliance on "journalism" is laughable. True journalism is all but dead. What passes for it these days is simply an offshoot of the DNC.

Too bad you discern ISSUES as rightly or wrongly decided simply because of whom the "decider" is. I get it. In your world Trump is always bad, evil, and authoritarian. True progressives are always enlightened, brilliant, and good. ...even when the former or latter really aren't all the time. I will continue to call them like I see them and if my analysis concurs to some party's talking points, you can be rest assured, I am NOT a party man by any measure.

I know that Rain and I will not agree on many political issues, but what I admire about her is that she is open-minded and willing to look at individual issues and the facts before rendering a judgment. You simply seem to reduce the equation down to "Trump = bad", "progressivism = good" and never stray from that formula. That is fine for you, but I like Rain's way of discerning what is good and bad far better, my friend.

I once thought that you too were such a person, Dave, that could look at an issue or person and judge based on facts instead of party affiliation or political philosophy. It was in the few times that you did so that we found ourselves in agreement, my friend. Sadly, looking back now at those times I noticed that those moments of agreement came when I agreed with the left's argument rather than you ever giving any credence to something that the right might have said.

Frankly, I applaud Rain and wish that there were a lot more like her on the right and left. We would still disagree, but we would all still see each other as Americans and be able to work together in compromise where possible to further the interests of our nation. Instead, we have too many that rather foster fear, hate, and resentment these days. Even more sadly, most of those doing so are the folks on the left that decried Trump's election because he would foster just such things as fear, hate, and destruction. Irony abounds!

At 5:07 PM, Blogger Dave Dubya said...

Rain,

You know we do have many points of agreement. But in this case, you also know you are taking Trump's claim over newspapers and intelligence agencies. I agree none should be trusted implicitly. Your support for the Trump stance and unsubstantiated slapdown of the left with, "Not much of a surprise to anybody but maybe the far left, who apparently never expect a candidate to do what they run on" is hardly moderate or accurate. Why the hell do you think we OPPOSED Trump, if not for that reason?

And I will note I see no similar criticism of Trump or his true believers. We know your husband is a Trump supporter, so I guess you side with him in case of perceived ambivalence?

While it is commendable to evaluate all the facts, I can't help noting this primal fact was totally out of the equation for you. Trump INVITED the Russians to hack!! THAT should be enough.

TP,
True journalism is all but dead. What passes for it these days is simply an offshoot of the DNC.

According to you, Rain, the Republican Party and Trump. You must ignore the parroting of Bush/Cheney war propaganda and blatant corporate bias in your fictional "liberal media".

Whatever happened to examining all the facts there?

Any Big Lie repeated enough will be believed.

If you could identify where I was incorrect, then by all means make a point. You are arguing and imposing a simplistic black and white world view onto me with no facts for substantiation. Perhaps there's some projection there old buddy.

I called both parties corrupt, yet I'm somehow a DNC spokesman or have "party affiliation"?

Give me a frickin break.

You talk of compromise, a word demonized by the right, my friend. You ignore the fact liberals have been demonized by the Right for decades. You call Hillary a criminal and never cited the law she broke. This is the essence of demonization, and it follows decades of such from the Right. And it worked. Now Trump has no clue of her crime and cannot "lock her up" after all. No hate there, amirite?

Hillary is no saint. She is only as corrupt as MOST politicians, but the Right has ALWAYS hated her. Imagine if she had admitted to criminal sexual conduct. IOKIYAR after all.

Instead, we have too many that rather foster fear, hate, and resentment these days. Even more sadly, most of those doing so are the folks on the left

Yes, blame liberals for demonizing Muslims and dismissing a judge's qualifications because of Mexican parents. Blame liberals for Klan parades celebrating Trump's win. "Liberals are the real haters." Yeah we get it all the frickin time. Demonization never ends from your side.

Your pedantic condescension has no substance. Challenge me on the facts or spare me the lecture.

Tom,

How much money do you think was sent to Putin by Trump to hack the emails in order to win the election? Why don't you write a screenplay for your fantasy and send it to Oliver Stone?

Poor Hillary. The people who spent in total over a billion dollars want answers as to why she lost. That money would have fed a lot of starving children for many years to come.
