Reset

In case you've noticed, this is the first piece I've written in slightly over a month. I didn't really intentionally abandon the blog, it's just that we're experiencing (as I'm certain you are) the longest heat wave in years - possibly ever. The upstairs office across the hall from the room that I sleep in has been so hot that one could roast a duck in it. I haven't attempted to do this because I'm rather fond of ducks. Another reason for my silence is simply because the January 6 hearings in June and early July left me speechless. The more I learn, the less I want to know.

And the more we learn, it's harder each day to avoid the ugly fact that the United States is teetering on the precipice of authoritarianism. When it was learned late last night that the feds had served a warrant on Trump's place in Florida in order to seize classified documents he removed  from the White House when he skipped town in 2021, the MAGA-brained crazies who claim him as their fearless leader went into a full tilt freakout mode. Many of them are now threatening civil war.

Idiot Nation.

Although privately proclaiming total devotion to the half-witted sociopath and common pervert who served as the nation's 45th president for four EXTREMELY long years, more-than-a few Republican politicians are beginning to see the very blinding light. They see Trump as an albatross that needs to be removed from their midst between now and the 2024 primary season - the sooner the better. More and more Americans are starting to understand how completely unhinged and out- of-touch Donald Trump is with the sweet concepts of reality. The very fact that he was elected to begin with fills the rest of the world - once so respectful and envious of the United States - with dread, loathing and horror.

Keep your eyes wide open. It is my sincere belief that this deranged moron will start another violent insurrection given the opportunity.

AFTERTHOUGHT. 8/11/22, 5:30 PM:

Olivia Newton-John

To be perfectly honest with you, I never spent too much time listening to the recordings of Olivia Newton-John back in the day. Her style of song was never really my thing. I was (and still am) more of an FM kind of a guy. To the best of my recollection, the only record of her's that I ever purchased was a 45 RPM of Xanadu - which I loved. And yet, for reasons I cannot quite explain, the news of her passing made me quite depressed. Perhaps it was for the way she conducted herself throughout her life; always cheerful, optimistic and upbeat. That's something to be admired, especially in the modern world. Here is the song of her's that I loved the best:

The common denominator of everyone who has eulogized her has been an emphasis on her kindness and gentleness. God rest her sweet soul.

Former NYPD commissioner Bernard Kerik appeared on NewsmaxTV on Monday evening, and in that appearance, he expressed concern that Democrats, terrified of Trump running for president again, might try to assassinate him.

Well Tom, will liberals try to assassinate President Trump?

Want to bet the FBI/Liberal Gestapo planted stuff because they would not allow Trump’s attorneys inside the 128-room building to observe the operation, which lasted more than nine hours. I'll take that bet.

Agents scoured Melania Trump’s wardrobe, following their Führer Biden's example of sniffing.

So Republicans are really about to go into the midterms with this messaging:
- Defund the FBI
- Toxin-exposed veterans don’t deserve healthcare
- End Social Security and Medicare
- 10-year-olds must be forced to give birth to their rapists’ baby
- Keep Insulin prices high

The FBI has immediately leaked the details of the raid on Mar A Lago to The New York Times. But yeah, it’s not political. If you don’t see the Rubicon that is being crossed by the FBI conducting a raid on a former and likely future political opponent’s home, I can’t help you.

The president with the lowest approval ratings in our lives just had his department of justice’s FBI raid the private home of the leading candidate to replace him in the next election.

Whether or not you're a fan of Donald Trump, you should realize this is dangerous territory.

On Monday night, we learned that Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate was raided by a team of FBI agents, ostensibly looking for documents the National Archivist says the former president took from the White House without authorization. Was the search for documents merely a pretext to snoop around Trump’s Florida home in the hopes that agents would turn up damning evidence related to the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol? Or was the Department of Justice hoping the raid would whip Trump supporters into a frenzy and cause a repeat of the J6 protest ahead of the midterm elections? (Don’t take the bait.) Both scenarios seem plausible. What doesn’t seem plausible is the idea that Merrick Garland’s Police State went to Palm Beach looking for cocktail napkins and dinner menus. Also not plausible is the claim that the White House didn’t know about the raid ahead of time. No sane person believes that an unprecedented raid on a former president of the United States — and likely contender in 2024 — could happen without Joe Biden (or whoever is making decisions these days at the White House) signing off on the decision.

Glad to see you're back, Tom--I have missed your blog. The heat sounds terrible down there (I'm lucky to live in relatively cool Maine). Maybe another reason for your break was to get away from the obnoxious rants of 'Anonymous'? Maybe you could suggest a good website to him/her/it to move to in order develop their 'special' opinions...?

Nine-and-a-half hours of secret snooping, 15 evidence boxes, and a jaunt through the former first lady’s closet later, it’s unclear what exactly FBI agents were looking for and ultimately recovered during their raid of former President Donald Trump’s home in Florida.

Given the bureau’s long track record of malfeasance, however — concocting an elaborate Russia collusion hoax, branding conservative parents as domestic terrorists, labeling anodyne right-wing symbols as extremist dog whistles, entrapping Americans in plots to kidnap radical governors, concluding a stand-off by murdering dozens of children, rigging an election by hiding information that harmed their preferred candidate, and egging on protesters and rioters before branding them as insurrectionists, just to name a few — it isn’t too hard to imagine that some of the things the FBI recovered from Mar-a-Lago weren’t recovered at all, but planted.

We won’t know what the FBI found at Trump’s domicile until somebody leaks it to the media as part of a calculated, pre-election info-op, but here are 5 best guesses as to what they might have, shall we say, contributed.

1. Cocaine from the Hunter Biden Evidence Shed
Evidence that’s been wrongly labeled as “disinformation” is the easiest kind to inconspicuously lift and plant in the residence of a former president.

2. Glossy 8×10 of Vladimir Putin
With “I <3 Putin” scrawled across the front in black marker that just happens to be the exact same color and thickness as the FBI markers used to label the evidence boxes.

3. Joe Biden Voodoo Doll
Pins are sticking out of its head because, see? Biden isn’t senile! It’s Trump’s fault.

4. A Diary

From the entry on page one:
December 31, 2021 — I’m so mad. The only reason I colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election was to get close enough to AOC to date her, but she keeps rejecting me. I now have no choice but to project my sexual frustrations onto her boyfriend’s feet and spend the evening curled up watching my fellow white supremacists on Fox News. Wish I could tweet about it.

5. Crack from the Hunter Biden Evidence Shed
Also previously labeled “disinformation” and not to be confused with the separate cocaine stash.

LOL

The Party of "Law and Order".

In September 2016 Trump declared, “If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment? The mob takes the Fifth.”

On August 10, 2020 Trump invoked his Fifth Amendment rights 440 times and declined to answer questions from the New York attorney general. And of course he whined, "witch hunt". He's only warming up. Count on him taking the Fifth like a mob boss for the following pending charges:

18 U.S. Code § 1924 - Unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents or material
18 U.S. Code § 1505 - Obstruction of proceedings before departments, agencies, and committees
18 U.S.C. § 371 - Conspiracy to Defraud the US

Biden is weaponizing the DOJ against his political opponents. If they can do this to the former President of the United States, imagine what they can do to you.
— Congressman Fred Keller (@RepFredKeller)

Imagine if the full force of the American justice system came down on you.
I don’t have to imagine – it happened to me. It happened to President Trump. Conservatives now know it can happen to any of us.
This is tyranny.

And someone actually targeted for revenge:

Col. Alexander Vindman tweeted:

Hey GOP/MAGA/@FoxNews, if Trump and his henchmen can launch a campaign of harassment, intimidation, and retaliation against a serving Army Officer for testifying before Congress, it can happen to anyone.

Two months before his Florida home was raided by the FBI, former President Donald Trump secretly received a grand jury subpoena for classified documents belonging to the National Archives, and voluntarily cooperated by turning over responsive evidence, surrendering security surveillance footage and allowing federal agents and a senior Justice Department lawyer to tour his private storage locker.

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration in its final year in office spent a record $36.2 million on legal costs defending its refusal to turn over federal records under the Freedom of Information Act, according to an Associated Press analysis of new U.S. data that also showed poor performance in other categories measuring transparency in government.

Obama White House lawyers repeatedly invoked the Presidential Records Act to “delay the release of thousands of pages of records from President Bill Clinton’s White House,” Politico reported. At the end of his presidency, Barack Obama trucked 30 million pages of his administration’s records to Chicago, promising to digitize them and eventually put them online — a move that outraged historians.

More than five years after Obama’s presidency ended, the National Archives webpage reveals that zero pages have been digitized and disclosed. People can file requests via the Freedom of Information Act (a law Obama helped wreck) to access Obama records, but responses from presidential libraries can be delayed for years, even more than a decade, if the information is classified.

ZERO PAGES!!!

How the hell is Obama's records for his library that the National Archive allowed him to borrow, the same as Trump stealing classified documents? And he REFUSED to return all of them, even after the NARA had to come get them?

Anonymous has no answers. But he IS more upset about the torture documents that resulted from Republican torture programs. Better blame Democrats, amirite?

The Senate released their committee report that torture was ineffective and cruel, even without the other secret documents that the CIA didn't want disclosed.

At 5:55 PM, Blogger Dave Dubya said...

Vern's getting quiet, isn't he?

"What about Obama?' he whines.

Washington Post reports:

As was reported back in late 2016, the Obama team was transferring the records to Chicago through the National Archives, which legally owns the documents once a president leaves office. Once the documents ultimately reached a warehouse in Chicago, the Obama Foundation was then due to pay the National Archives and Record Administration to digitize the documents. The lengthiness of that process aside, there isn’t the faintest hint of legal violations — nor does the Post’s story suggests as much.

Trump REFUSED to return classified documents he illegally took to Mar-a-Lago. What POSSIBLE use would they be to him, if not personal profit or covering up something?

Vern can't answer. He only regurgitates.
