What's Up with The Supremes?

I was all set to write a piece today on the Supreme Court's overturing a New York law that had been on the books for one-hundred and eleven years that forbade people in the Big Apple from carrying concealed weapons on their persons out in the open. As bad as the homicide rate from gunshot wounds are at the moment in merrie olde Manhattan, they're about to go through the fucking roof. The current makeup of that body of justices is further proof that the extreme right wing is ruining this country. New Yok State - where I live, by the way - is about to turn into the Wild West Side. This slide into extremist insanity has got to be ended.

Now About the Repeal of Roe V. Wade:

I have to confess, in January of 1973, when Roe v. Wade was made the law of the land, I was a fourteen-year-old Catholic school boy attending St. John The Evangelist School, in Goshen, NY.  I had it drummed into my psyche what a horrible thing the new law was. As the years transpired, I came to understand the struggle of the women's movement more and more. My opinion eventually evolved to the idea that women should not have abortions (which is easy for me to say - as a man). One day, a close friend of mine asked me to drive her to a clinic where she could have the procedure. I told her that my conscience wouldn't allow me to do it.

Powell
"I thought that you were pro-abortion", she said.

"No, ma'am", I replied, "I'm pro-choice - there's a difference."

The proponents of the overturning of Roe v Wade are telling us that it was a political discission made by a bunch of frightened justices who were terrified of going against the tenor of the times. No one will ever be able to convince me that Justice Louis Powell - the most conservative of justices - was cowered into voting with the left wing mob. He knew that the times were changing and he was determined to change with them.

The repeal of Roe v Wade will create more problems than it solves. This is not going to end well. I'm just saying.

Tom Degan
Goshen, NY

SUGGESTED VIEWING:

Here's Joe Biden addressing the repeal of Roe v Wade today:

This is not a good thing, campers.

What will the voters say in November?

The US is under minority rule, with a Supreme Court packed with liars by a criminal president.

History warns us how that can turn out:

“The National Government...regards Christianity as the foundation of our national morality, and the family as the basis of national life." - Adolf Hitler "My New Order" - Proclamation to the German Nation, Berlin, February 1, 1933

On October 10, 1936 Heinrich Himmler created the Reich Central Office for Combating Homosexuality and Abortion, or Special Office (II S), a sub-department of Executive Department II of the Gestapo.

In 1941 Hitler said, “I am now as before a Catholic and will always remain so."
The Supreme Court is infected with traitors, theocrats and perjurers who violated the law and Constitution. IMPEACH them.

The extent to which liberals have gone bananas over the Dobbs case is a phenomenon that demands explanation. Most liberals, after all, understand that the Court has not banned abortion, or in fact placed any limits on it whatsoever. It has simply remitted the issue of abortion to the political sphere where it was prior to 1973, and where it always has belonged, thus ending a half century of usurpation by the Court.

Moreover, abortion laws in the U.S. have been extremely liberal compared with most countries–almost every country other than North Korea, in fact.

Wow. Today I learned that Europe has more restrictive abortion laws than most of the U.S. did up until this week. https://t.co/h7cvIlIEMN

— Noah Smith 🐇🇺🇦 (@Noahpinion) June 26, 2022

One of the many ironies of post-Dobbs hysteria was French President Emmanuel Macron denouncing the decision, even though the Mississippi statute that the Court upheld was more permissive, more liberal, than France’s own abortion law.

Most liberals no doubt understand that they now will have to take their case to the voters, and that when the dust settles, American abortion laws will look pretty much like Europe’s. And some states will be extremely permissive–New York, for one, may legalize infanticide, which the states are perfectly free to do. So, once again–why the hysteria?

There are several elements are at work here, but the most basic is that liberals (Democrats) do not want to take the issue of abortion to the voters. They do not want to have to make their case. They do not want to have to argue and persuade. Rather, they want all views opposed to their own to be banned and unheard. Delegitimized.

This is perhaps the dominant fact of 21st Century politics. Liberals don’t want to debate, they don’t want to persuade. They want to censor. They want some higher authority, whether the Supreme Court, Twitter, or corporate America, to declare all views but theirs out of bounds. They don’t want to participate in democratic politics, they want to rule by fiat. For all their wailing about “our democracy,” the last thing liberals want is the actual give and take of a democracy, which usually entails compromise.

The key reason for the Left’s hysteria over Dobbs is liberals, having to argue, to persuade, to run for office, to participate in the messy work of democracy where you don’t always win, is a step backward. They had everything going their way, and now…this.

Viewed in that light, the demonstrations, insurrections, encouragement of assassination of Supreme Court Justices, and arson at Christian maternity centers are understandable.

Who the hell is John Hinderaker, other than someone who is less informed than "Noah Smith"?

Smith thinks there is a "heartbeat" at 6 weeks. It is still an embryo.

There is NO heart and no brain, and it is not a fetus at 6 weeks!

https://www.livescience.com/65501-fetal-heartbeat-at-6-weeks-explained.html

"Is a 'fetal heartbeat' really a heartbeat at 6 weeks?"

But what exactly do we mean when we talk about a "fetal heartbeat" at six weeks of pregnancy? Although some people might picture a heart-shaped organ beating inside a fetus, this is not the case.

Rather, at six weeks of pregnancy, an ultrasound can detect "a little flutter in the area that will become the future heart of the baby," said Dr. Saima Aftab, medical director of the Fetal Care Center at Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami. This flutter happens because the group of cells that will become the future "pacemaker" of the heart gain the capacity to fire electrical signals, she said.

But the heart is far from fully formed at this stage, and the "beat" isn't audible; if doctors put a stethoscope up to a woman's belly this early on in her pregnancy, they would not hear a heartbeat

European Abortion Laws A Comparative Overview

https://reproductiverights.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/European-abortion-law-a-comparative-review.pdf

In the European Union (EU) almost every country has legalized abortion on request or on broad social grounds. Poland and Malta are the only EU member states that maintain highly restrictive laws.

Legal situations in Europe
https://abortion-clinics.eu/abortion-europe/

Abortion Law in Europe
Most countries in the European Union allow abortion on demand during the first trimester. After the first trimester, abortion is allowed only under certain circumstances, such as risk to woman’s life or health, fetal defects or other specific situations that may be related to the circumstances of the conception or the woman’s age. For instance, in Austria, second trimester abortions are allowed only if there is a serious risk to physical health of woman (that cannot be averted by other means); risk to mental health of woman (that cannot be averted by other means); immediate risk to life of woman (that cannot be averted by other means); serious fetal impairment (physical or mental); or if the woman is under 14 years of age.

Viewed in that light, John Hinderaker and Noah Smith are full of BS.

FACT-O-RAMA! Ruth Bader Ginsburg was pro-choice, but even she knew the Supreme Court should not be involved in the abortion issue. It should have been left up to the states from the beginning.

No evidence or quote to support the claim.

Anonymous just can't get anything right, can he?

Fact: Ruth Bader Ginsburg wanted the Supreme Court to rule under "Equal Protection", not "privacy".

"What Ruth Bader Ginsburg really said about Roe v. Wade"

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/06/27/what-ruth-bader-ginsburg-really-said-about-roe-v-wade/

There’s no question Ginsburg disagreed with how Roe was decided. But it’s hardly that simple.

Indeed Ginsburg’s criticisms of Roe generally had to do with pragmatic and political concerns, rather than saying it was outright wrong. And far from wanting to leave this decision to the states, as Friday’s decision does, she repeatedly sided with the idea that abortion was a constitutional right. She had preferred that right to be phased in more gradually and that it rely more on a different part of the Constitution — the right to equal protection rather than the right to privacy, the basis of Roe.

Casual observers of the Supreme Court who came to the Law School to hear Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg speak about Roe v. Wade likely expected a simple message from the longtime defender of reproductive and women’s rights: Roe was a good decision.

Those more acquainted with Ginsburg and her thoughtful, nuanced approach to difficult legal questions were not surprised, however, to hear her say just the OPPOSITE, that Roe was a faulty decision. For Ginsburg, the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that affirmed a woman’s right to an abortion was too far-reaching and too sweeping, and it gave anti-abortion rights activists a very tangible target to rally against in the four decades since.

Ginsburg and Professor Geoffrey Stone, a longtime scholar of reproductive rights and constitutional law, spoke for 90 minutes before a capacity crowd in the Law School auditorium on May 11 on “Roe v. Wade at 40.”

“My criticism of Roe is that it seemed to have stopped the momentum on the side of change,” Ginsburg said. She would’ve preferred that abortion rights be secured more gradually, in a process that included state legislatures and the courts, she added. Ginsburg also was troubled that the focus on Roe was on a right to privacy, rather than women’s rights.

“Roe isn’t really about the woman’s choice, is it?” Ginsburg said. “It’s about the doctor’s freedom to practice…it wasn’t woman-centered, it was physician-centered.”

It’s surprising to no one that the Left has lost its mind over the Supreme Court’s abortion ruling. What’s maybe a little more surprising is the vicious rancor directed at Justice Clarence Thomas, specifically.

Why Thomas? Why are they going after one out of six?

Because the Left is racist. They expect Clarence Thomas to think the way a black man should, based on the color of his skin. And Clarence Thomas for 30 years, 40 years has refused to do that, and they want to destroy him. And that is what they’ve been doing in coming after him and the bottom line is: Clarence Thomas doesn’t care at all what they think.
