Twelve noon on January 20 2121 cannot come soon enough. The ticking time bomb in the oval office is hell-bent on doing as much damage to the republic that can possibly be done in less than a week. Washington today looks like an armed fortress as twenty thousand national guardsmen and women are patrolling the streets, on the lookout for the armed extremists that attempted to put an end to democracy in America one week and one day ago. I always knew we would come to this point; I was only not sure it would happen in my lifetime. Donald Trump is many, many things. One thing he is not is boring. Let's give credit where it's due.
There are now signs that what happened at the Capitol on January 6, 2021 might have been an inside job. The day before the incursion, several members of congress were seen giving a tour of the layout of the place to several different groups. This is something that had not been done since the shutdown due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus ten months ago. If there was incitement to this incursion by any elected representatives, the feds will find get to the bottom of it soon enough. Bear in mind that Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed for a lot less in 1953.
If by now you re unable to understand what a danger that disgusting party is to freedom and democracy, you might as well turn of the lights and go back to sleep. This is not our parents Republican Party. It has been overtaken by a force so dark and dangerous that it needs to disappear forever into history's bottomless shithole. It's a party that, if it still exists a decade from now, should be relegated to the fringes of our national discussion. The "party of Abraham Lincoln" was represented within the capital building last week by seditionist thugs wearing sweatshirts that glorified the Nazis and carrying confederate flags. At least five people died - including one idiot rioter who accidentally electrocuted himself in the groin with a taser.
The specter of the assault on American democracy will be with us for the rest on the lives of everyone who will be old enough to remember it. For the first time in our history there was not a peaceful transfer of power. I can hardly believe that I am even writing these words. It is my belief that the entire presidency of Donald Trump should be annulled. I cannot imagine that ugly, orange face soiling the posters of American presidents that grace most elementary school classrooms throughout the country. How the hell are we going to explain this corrupt jackass to the children of tomorrow? It's going to be awkward, I promise you that.
I'm getting nostalgic for 2020, isn't that something? It's hard to believe that we have sunk as low as this.

Then Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced she was going to reopen bars and restaurants as quickly as possible. She said it was because people were not following guidelines at private gatherings. This seems more than a little absurd.

One example is the large Danish study on mask-wearing. It was a randomized, controlled study, which we are told is the gold standard. The study was also peer-reviewed and published. The corporate media completely ignored it because it demonstrated that masks did not prevent the spread of COVID-19 in a large study population.
On January 5, a peer-reviewed international study was published. It confirmed what many doctors, researchers, and others have been saying since last April. Stay-at-home orders and business closures have no significant impact on the spread of COVID-19.

The study lasted only for one month. More importantly it was measured only in infection rates, not transmission. And yes, more people without masks got infected.
Significantly more viral transmission occur without masks. They help contain the spread, more than they protect from infection.

Last week we posted a video of staffers from two of the General Assembly's most liberal members — Democrat Delegate Mark Sickles (D-43, Fairfax) and Democrat Senator George Barker (D-39, Fairfax) — physically blocking a videographer from recording a public town hall meeting. Not surprisingly, those rude tactics appear to be universal leftist ploys: When your ideas aren't acceptable, you raise a ruckus demagogue your opponents while trying to obfuscate your own proposals.
Recently, left-wing activists in Wisconsin attempted to disrupt a Special Olympics ceremony that Governor Scott Walker attended to display their anger at his duly enacted policies (gotta love those big-hearted, compassionate liberals). There are plenty of methods to make public one's points of dissatisfaction with policy. But disrupting the Special Olympics? Ruining a special day for special children? How do you spell d-e-s-p-e-r-a-t-e?

I am not in favor of censorship. Free speech means you are not always going to feel comfortable hearing what other people say. It is always a slippery slope when you remove rights from a person or group.
I do not like the idea that Big Teck is now part of the the government apparatus, that is the first step to a fascist state. It is hard to maintain a Democracy but easy to lose it.
Less than 24 hours before we start getting back to what the USA is supposed to be about.
I cannot run down a city street screaming expletives and threatening to blow up buildings. ALL Constitutional rights have conditions.
Social media platforms do not want to be responsible for sowing treasonous or terrorist actions. They are PRIVATE COMPANIES who have TERMS OF SERVICE.
They are not required to allow TERRORISTS to use them for illegal activity.
Should shouting, "Allah Akbar!" on a passenger plain be protected free speech? "Fire" in a crowded theater?
Should incitement to insurrection by saying, "The election was stolen, march to the Capitol, and take our country back", be protected free speech?
Or are public safety, slander laws, and criminalizing threats a rational basis for not tolerating certain speech?

When religion, speech, the press and assembly become threats to public safety, the right to free speech is abused and is abrogated. The Constitution is not a suicide pact.
Dave, the idea is if you want freedom for all you have to take some risk. Any dangerous actions will or can be prosecuted in regards to overstepping free speech laws. All these rights have been thought out very carefully by very intelligent people a long time ago.
When something bad happens there is always a rush to judgment. After 9/11 happened they gave us the Patriot Act, then they followed it with the NDAA. Those two sets of laws supersede all our cherished freedoms and rights. Just before Obama left office he signed Felony Riot which criminalizes peaceful protests.
They tried to use that law against 206 people who protested against Trump at the very beginning of his presidency. They where shooting for 80 years in prison for each of the protestors but lost 40 or 50 times in a row. I guess the jurors where not totally cowed by the legal system yet.
Now the Biden administration is coming out with Patriot Act Two, in four years you will come around to my way of thinking!

Just because you cannot find does not mean it does not exists. Obama's 2012 NDAA is more easily found and researched. It takes all rights away from anybody deemed a threat to the state with no legal recourse.
Felony Riot was a law passed long ago, Obama just amended it in 2016 to be more fascist. You cannot argue with the existence of the NDAA which makes my case the Obama was anything but a Liberal.
You mentioned a 2016 Felony Riot Bill. I'd like to learn more. You assert it exists and also admit to not locating it. I, too, looked for it. I can not locate it.
If I can't find it in the publicly available documents provided by Congress for public review and consumption. I just find it silly that someone is going to get all bent out of shape over the concept of something that doesn't actually exist.
Now if you can find it afterall, I'm seriously interested and would love for you to share so I can bend myself into a pretzel as well.
