I'm not going to douse you all with schadenfreude at the passing into eternity yesterday of Rush Limbaugh. I know that he had friends and family that loved him and will treasure his memory. Back in December when I learned that he was too ill to broadcast any longer, I looked up his birth date on Google. It stated that he was born on January 12, 1951. I said a silent prayer for him that he would at least live to see his seventieth. He did. Good for him.That being said, American public discourse has become just a little bit less unhinged with his demise. For forty years he poisoned our national conversation with his own brand of right wing extremism and an overt and vile racism that he never even attempted to conceal. From the time he entered the public arena in the early eighties, it was obvious that the audience he was aiming for was disgruntled white men with beer bellies and bad breath. In the nearly-fifteen years I've been writing this site, I only wrote about Rush Limbaugh once. That was twelve years ago in the piece quoted at the top. Truth be told, I never thought about him much because he was hard to take seriously. Once in a blue Venus I would tune him in only to ponder his latest idiocy - just for my own amusement you understand. Other than that, old Rush was barely on my radar. In fact I'm surprised I remembered how to spell his name.
Rush Limbaugh is dead, but the damage he has done to American society and culture will be with us for a very long time. On the day of his death, the ex- president of the United States (You know whom I'm talking about) phoned in to a Focks Nooz program to proclaim that Rush will be "irreplaceable". My immediate reaction was: yeah, no one will ever replace him. That is a very good thing, indeed. But how do we set upon undoing the damage that he has done to America? That's the tricky part. In Joe McCarthy's day there was only one Joe. Today American politics is littered with McCarthy wannabes. It's the same thing in American media with respect to Limbaugh's imitators - they're everywhere. The results of this plague on the national discourse will be with us for a very long time, and it's anyone's guess as to whether or not we will even survive it.

His masses of half-witted devotees happily referred to themselves as "ditto-heads". That sounds about right. Rush was the personified symbol of this country's willful stupidity. The damage that he has done will be with us for a very long time.
Here is how I ended the piece on Rush that I wrote in 2009:

While they were all able to enjoy great fame and treasure while they were alive, death would find the three of them consigned history's garbage heap, forgotten and disgraced. Indeed, during the thirties and forties Winchell was arguably the most famous man in America. And yet when he died in 1972, the only person who bothered to show up at his funeral was his estranged daughter (with whom he had not spoken in years). Do you remember the name Walter Winchell? Don't feel bad if you don't; not many people do.
Rush Limbaugh, too, will suffer posterity's indifference. Of that you may be completely certain."

The FBI and federal prosecutors in Brooklyn are investigating Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s coronavirus task force with a particular focus on his administration’s handling of nursing homes early in the coronavirus pandemic, two sources familiar with the matter told ABC News.

I never realized how large a fan of Rush the Duke of Darkness was until now.
On Tuesday, President Biden* had a town hall on CNN that’s being described as “disastrous.”
Not because he fumbled any tough questions from CNN. Those are as rare for him as generators at Texas Home Depots right now.
No, as is often the case, the weird gaffes were all of Biden’s own making. Here’s a list titled “Biden*’s Six Weirdest Moments at the CNN Town Hall.”
Some make you concerned about his state of mind, like claiming we didn’t have the COVID-19 vaccine when he came into office. Biden got vaccinated himself on live TV on Dec. 21, a month before he took office.
Some critics are calling that a lie, but why tell a lie that everyone knows isn’t true? It just makes people think, “Does he not remember that?”
Some of the rest of the weird moments would just be insulting if they weren’t coming from someone with the fearsome power of the presidency behind him. Like claiming that the biggest domestic threat of terrorism is from white supremacists in our police and military.
I’m sure the cops and National Guard troops in D.C. who are freezing their heinies off to protect him from the imaginary armies of insurrectionist Trump voters appreciate being called racist terrorists.
As one commentator on Instapundit pointed out, nothing says you’re doing the will of the people like surrounding yourself with troops and razor wire fences, confiscating guns and cracking down on free speech.
But maybe even more shocking was Biden*’s apologia for those “good folks” who run communist China, and their vicious crackdowns on protesters in Hong Kong and brutal, even genocidal policies against cultural, racial and religious minorities.
Here is what he said about his pal, President Xi Jinping:
“And so the idea I’m not going to speak out against what he’s doing in Hong Kong, what he’s doing with the Uighurs in western mountains of China and Taiwan, trying to end the One China policy by making it forceful — I said — and by the — he said he — he gets it. Culturally, there are different norms that each country and they — their leaders — are expected to follow.”
He must think that the phrase “When in Rome…” ends with “don’t criticize them for throwing Christians to the lions.”
I think he’s taken tolerance for “multiculturalism” to its ultimate repellant conclusion.
It’s shocking to hear these words coming from an American president, especially after four years of seeing Trump stand up to China while Biden* and his party were calling him a dictator, accusing him of being soft on dictators and even comparing him to Hitler.
If a real Hitler were around today, would Biden tell us he’s not going to speak out against him because, after all, putting Jews in concentration camps is just his nation’s “cultural norm”?
And as Biden reminded us, the Nazis were expected to “just follow orders.”
The Babylon Bee now contains more truth than Biden’s entire CNN town hall. It’s headlined, “To Save Time, The Babylon Bee Will Now Just Republish Everything Biden Says Verbatim.”

Earlier this week, Joe Biden* said “we didn’t have” a COVID-19 vaccine when he took office. It was quickly dismissed as a gaffe because, as we all know, there was indeed a COVID-19 vaccine when Biden* took office. Biden* himself received his two doses before taking office. I questioned whether Biden’*s “gaffe” was indeed a gaffe because we’d already seen significant evidence that the Biden* administration has been trying to create a false narrative that the Trump administration left them no plan for vaccine distribution and that Biden* was “starting from scratch.”
Even Dr. Fauci contradicted that claim.

But the one glaring thing that is noticed in this entire situation, AOC is using a system to raise funds for Texas that she has complained does not work.
Yes, AOC is using a system called capitalism to raise funds for those people in Texas that need assistance. That horrible, greedy, millionaire-laden economic system that only hurts people, rather than helps them. The same system she says does not do enough to help people in need and should be replaced with a government ran system that supplies the things people “need.” If that were the case, the people of Texas would still be waiting.
Capitalism is the system that has allowed millions of people to give money to the people of Texas freely. It allows people to choose what they want to do with their money and how.
