Bracing for the Nightmare

America is sorrow-bound. This is a train that I plan on missing. You'd better believe it, Bubba.

Image result for gun craziesThis is probably the easiest call I've ever made. If you're silly enough to believe that the most insanely lax gun laws in the western hemisphere haven't yet come back to haunt us (as in Newtown in 2012) you are within a few months of a shattering dose of reality. I really hope I'm wrong about this - and if I am, save this piece in your files and, by all means, come back a year from now and shove it in my face; I'll welcome the gloating - in fact I'll be thankful for it.

I saw a scene on the TV news that shocked me on the one hand, and amused me on the other: Armed security persons lined up in various positions in Times Square, New York City, guarding otherwise carefree tourists making merry in that town's most iconic landmark. It made perfect sense to me: Times Square is, after all, the most obvious spot for a terrorist attack upon innocent civilians. But it got me to asking myself the question that is begging to be put forward: what about all the not-so-obvious targets - tens of thousands of them - in the villages and hamlets scattered about this entire country? I get the dry-heaves just thinking about it.

In the last ten years, two-thousand people (that we know of) who have been placed on the so-called "no fly" list were able to purchase at least that many (if not more) fire arms. How is this even possible you may ask? Because the United States Congress has sewn itself securely into the linings of the pockets of the National Rifle Association. You see, denying a potential terrorist the right to purchase a rapid-fire, people-killing machine is an assault on their rights - intentions be damned. How are we supposed to protect everyone? The answer is simple: We can't. The American people are sitting ducks. Coming soon to a small town near you - or me....

The irony is that I cannot advocate the one remedy that would surely put a stop this madness: the targeted assassinations of key members of congress - or their families. That would solve the problem - overnight. Pretty sad.

By the way, don't deceive yourselves into believing that any terrorist attack on these shores will necessarily come from people not born in the good ol' U.S. of A. - or that the attackers will be Muslims. There are just oodles of imaginable scenarios here. Doesn't that make you feel all warm and squishy inside? I need a drink.

Image result for eiffel towerIf you think that what happened in Paris last week cannot happen here - and with comparative ease - you're kidding yourselves. Chew on this for a while: Since the horrific slaughter of twenty-six human beings in a Connecticut elementary school almost two years ago, not a single law has been passed to ensure that something like that would never happen again.

I used to think that America was worth saving. I don't believe that anymore.

Fuck it, I'm going back to bed.

I have a dear friend of 35 years standing, who has bought into the NRA line, and surely will die with her gun(s) in her hands. This reactionary line did not always exist, it developed over time. We now avoid the subject. Her nightmare is exactly your scenario, small towns will be taken over by (foreign) terriorists. Then, she says, terrorism will have crossed our borders. Domestic "terrorists" exist, in her opinion, because the local population is not armed and ready to deal with them. Come the apocalyse she will retreat to her daughter and son-in-law's compound.
When the country was dealing with returning ebola patients she was literally seized with that same terror. Ebola would hop among us like fleas and the country would go down to the disease. 'Treating" the patients in this country was a conspiracy to bring the country to its knees. There was no reasoning with her. There also is no discussion now of what actually happened. "We were lucky."
The point is, you are correct. Many of us are simply mad, as in unhinged. When there is a terrorist attact (a gang of fools shooting its way down Main Street in my small town and detonating bombs in the two restaurants, the library and the town hall), the perpetrators will be born in this country and gone to school with our children and grandchildren.
I don't get it.

If true, this is indeed a huge travesty and it MUST be corrected. If people are placed on no-fly lists due to terrorist connections, they absolutely should not be allowed to legally purchase firearms any more than someone that has a domestic violence protective order issued against him should. I am all for ensuring that back-ground checks also verify “no-fly” status. And so would the NRA, I would venture to say.

That said, would-be terrorists can still get weapons through black market means. Indeed, that is almost surely how they would most likely get these weapons.

Further, I KNOW the NRA endorses background checks to ensure that criminals, the mentally ill, and those with violent protection orders against them do not legally get firearms. I guarantee that terrorists of foreign or domestic flavors would also be groups they would wholeheartedly not wish to have firearms.

The fear-mongering and mischaracterization of the NRA because they support the 2nd amendment rights for all LAW ABIDING AMERICANS of sound mental health is severely misplaced, Mr. Degan.
But, that doesn’t jibe with the progressive narrative, does it? To my leftist friends, all guns are bad, so let’s abolish the NRA, repeal the 2nd amendment, and confiscate all legally owned firearms. That really solved the problem for the unarmed French citizens in Paris, didn’t it?

At 12:11 PM, Blogger Mozart1220 said...

YOu "KNow" about the NRA huh? How could that be unless you actually are one of the leaders? Their actions and words certainly don't suggest they want to do anything but sell more guns to as many people as want them. No one wants to repeal the 2nd amendment, we'd just like that you obey the original intent, instead of some perverted version of it.

Besides how do you know if they person you sell the gun to is of "sound mental health" if the NRA won't allow mental health background checks?

The NRA is the sales arm of the gun industry. THey are against law abiding BROWN peopl having guns, but have no problem with some moonshine filled redneck carries an AK-47 into a shopping mall.

At 1:24 PM, Blogger Darrell Michaels said...

Mozart, your response right there proves you do not have a clue what you are talking about, sir.

It was with great help from the NRA that was fighting against the unconstitutional gun control laws in D.C. that helped get SCOTUS to rule in District of Columbia v. Heller decision that the largely poor people of color in D.C. did indeed have a right to own firearms for self defense.

They then helped with amicus briefs on the SCOTUS ruling on McDonald v. Chicago so that people of color in south Chicago could LEGALLY have firearms to protect themselves from the thugs, gang-bangers, and idiots in the area. They confirmed what the founders intended in that decision that the right to keep and bear arms is an INDIVIDUAL RIGHT!

Your diatribe about racism and rednecks is simply left-wing anti-gun propaganda that you have swallowed whole, my friend. If you don't like guns, then I wholeheartedly support your right not to have one. If I do choose to own one, I will do so. Further, I will not infringe upon your rights by my owning one. If only I could expect that same reciprocation.

In the two centuries following the adoption of the Bill of Rights, in 1791, no amendment received less attention in the courts than the Second, except the Third. As Adam Winkler, a constitutional-law scholar at U.C.L.A., demonstrates in a remarkably nuanced new book, “Gunfight: The Battle Over the Right to Bear Arms in America,” firearms have been regulated in the United States from the start. Laws banning the carrying of concealed weapons were passed in Kentucky and Louisiana in 1813, and other states soon followed: Indiana (1820), Tennessee and Virginia (1838), Alabama (1839), and Ohio (1859). Similar laws were passed in Texas, Florida, and Oklahoma. As the governor of Texas explained in 1893, the “mission of the concealed deadly weapon is murder. To check it is the duty of every self-respecting, law-abiding man.”

Although these laws were occasionally challenged, they were rarely struck down in state courts; the state’s interest in regulating the manufacture, ownership, and storage of firearms was plain enough. Even the West was hardly wild. “Frontier towns handled guns the way a Boston restaurant today handles overcoats in winter,” Winkler writes. “New arrivals were required to turn in their guns to authorities in exchange for something like a metal token.” In Wichita, Kansas, in 1873, a sign read, “Leave Your Revolvers at Police Headquarters, and Get a Check.” The first thing the government of Dodge did when founding the city, in 1873, was pass a resolution that “any person or persons found carrying concealed weapons in the city of Dodge or violating the laws of the State shall be dealt with according to law.” On the road through town, a wooden billboard read, “The Carrying of Firearms Strictly Prohibited.” The shoot-out at the O.K. Corral, in Tombstone, Arizona, Winkler explains, had to do with a gun-control law. In 1880, Tombstone’s city council passed an ordinance “to Provide against the Carrying of Deadly Weapons.” When Wyatt Earp confronted Tom McLaury on the streets of Tombstone, it was because McLaury had violated that ordinance by failing to leave his gun at the sheriff’s office.

Good point, Chuck. Somehow I think Obama and his minions would attempt to find a way.

As for the Syrian refugee problems, ISIS has specifically said that they will infiltrate the refugee masses to gain entrance to the U.S. Our head of the CIA and our director of the FBI has warned us against this. If even 1% of the 10,000 refugees that Obama wants to let into the country are ISIS terrorists, that is 100 people bent on our destruction. It only took 19 to execute 9/11.

If I had a big bowl of 10,000 M&M's and told you 100 of them were poisoned with a deadly toxin, would you grab a big handful of them?

Obama is an idiot. I am sick of him lecturing me on my hatefulness and bigotry because he simply doesn't want to do his constitutional job to protect our nation.

We can create a safe zone for those poor refugees in their own country of Syria and provide food, water, and medicine where they are protected from ISIS. There is no need to jeopardize America or Europe by allowing them to enter our countries when there is no safe way to vet them to make sure they aren't evil ISIS scum.

Frankly I think we should send our Commander in Chief to that safe zone in Syria with the refugees for the remainder of his disastrous and failed term in office. He seems to have more concern for them than he does for his own nation.

These refugees are people. They are people that have been are fleeing a war torn region in an attempt to find something better. Most of these people have been terrorized by the same violence that ripped through Paris on Friday – the only difference is they have been living within the violence for months upon months. The act of “standing with” and “praying” for Paris and then conversely dismissing the plight of the Syrian immigrants, and boiling down this issue to memes about M&M’s and grapes is obscenely hypocritical and xenophobic. Memes like the one below -that are running rampant on Facebook- along with sentiments that state, “I’ve got a bowl of 10,000 M&M’s, 10 are poisoned. How many of you bleeding heart liberals are gonna grab a handful?” are not only a substantial over-simplification of a complex and multifaceted crisis, but they’re flat-out dehumanizing and tremendously coarse.

Please think and read before sharing sentiments like these. If the United States was torn apart by violence and civil war, and you and your family were forced to flee your home to ensure your safety, how would you feel to see people around the world lumping you in with the very same murderous group that you are fleeing from? As the Washington Post pointed out, much of this rhetoric bares a striking resemblance to the reaction of many intolerant Americans, when Jewish refugees were fleeing Germany and Austria during WWII. Let’s try to be on the right side of history here. Let’s show a little tact and insight; let’s read about this issue from multiple sources, and use -at the very least- a moderate level of discernment. There is a measured and rational conversation to be had here, but nobody seems to be having it. If, after doing the appropriate amount of unbiased research, you still find yourself believing that accepting refugees is too big of a risk, you are free to have that opinion, but still, do not marginalize the struggle of the Syrian people – show a little compassion and empathy. They are people. They are mothers, daughters, fathers, sons, sisters, brothers, grandparents, aunts and uncles, they are not M&M’s.

I am breaking my rule by responding to "Anonymous" postings here.

I am quite sympathetic to the legitimate refugees and the families fleeing the terror and evil of ISIS. That is why I offered a solution of creating a safe zone within their own country where we could shelter them from these evil beings.

If there was a way we could vet them to bring them safely into our country, I would be inclined to do so; however, when our leaders in the FBI, CIA, and other intelligence agencies state that there is no way to do this safely and ISIS has said they are already amongst the refugees, our first priority has to be to protecting our own nation. We can also protect the refugees, as they are indeed people worthy of our protection. We do so with an international coalition in their own nation. And we stop with the asinine rules of engagement that Obama has shackled our military with in the fight against these subhuman evil beings.

Are humans in their mothers womb people?

I think Jesus would preach his message of who he is and what he did for each of us with his death and reserection from the grave and how trusting in his act is all that is needed to be forgiven of our sins which allow us to stand before a holy God with the knowledge that he sees one that no longer trusts the works of his hands for forgiveness as it was his Son who paid our debt. And places his trust n Jesus.
I think Jesus would be angry with those who believe they can be good enough to go to heaven after he paid the price he paid. I think Jesus would be angry with those who view his acts on earth as only being a social ministry not the heavenly one I think Jesus would be sadden by those who murder his childern as ISIS has because of their faith in his redemptive act on the cross instead of a belief in their working their way to heaven or not believing there is a God

I think Jesus would be only concerned with where the refuge places his faith not their social status not what they were running from as these things are temporary earthly things and Jesus is concerned with heavenly things
That is why he left heaven, became man, faced all the woes of humanity remained sinless, died the death of a sinful man when he was sinless, rose from dead and went to back heaven from which he left to become man where he is preparing a place for those who have place their faith in his work not their own
That's what I think Jesus would do

Mozart, spare me your sense of "righteous" indignation. Of course the refugees are people and deserving of our help. That is why I offered an alternative viable solution to protect them in their own nation.

The M&M's reference was simply to illustrate the odds of letting those ISIS-infiltrated refugees come to America. It shows the danger that presents to Americans. Yes, we need to be compassionate to these people. We do not need to endanger our very selves by showing such compassion though.

ISIS is comprised of evil subhumans that would kill you and everyone you hold dear, if given the chance. This isn't some abstract situation that only occurs in the Middle East. It has already happened in Europe, and I dare say that eventually it will likely happen in America too. I pray for the conversion of their hearts.

So don't use Jesus as a cudgel. I love and trust in our Lord. I don't know if you do or not. I hope you do. I do know that there are some on the left that will justify their positions or criticize mine using Christ when they don't even have faith or knowledge in Him. That is real hypocrisy of the truly highest order when that is done.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it odd that while Obama says ISIL is JV on the run and contained, his administration issues a world wide travel alert to Ameicans effective until Feb. 2016 due to heighten Islamic terrororist threats. Mean while domesticly, the administration says nothing about Islamic threats, but demands the GOP controlled Congress pass a gun control bill making unlawful to sell guns to a suspected terrorist. How stupid is that! If there is no terrorist threat IE there are no terrorist here, if our vetting process will prevent terroris from entering,,,then why is this bill needed?

Only 27 percent of American believe Obamas plan to defeat ISIL is working. Who are these 27 percent?

Good questions, Chuck. I suspect some of those 27% are our leftist friends here on Tom's blog. I wonder if any of them could tell me the specifics of just what Obama's plan for dealing with ISIS is? It seems that once again, our brilliant Commander in Chief is leading from behind and allowing France to be the point man in bringing about a more effective coalition to fight the "contained" ISIS threat.

Tom is worried about gun control issues in America. One wonders why our progressive friends aren't more concerned with our arming of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria and allowing Iran to continue their "peaceful" nuke program, where even the Obama administration acknowledges that in ten to fifteen years, the world's leading sponsor of state terrorism will be able to obtain nuclear weapons. (And that is making the preposterous assumption that they will abide by the deal and wait THAT long!) Obama has even helped to arm Mexican drug cartels with his Fast and Furious program. You would think that he could at least let us American citizens be left alone to exercise our LEGAL 2nd amendment right.

Instead they are worried about enacting more feckless and useless gun control laws domestically. Again, what further gun control law could we have passed that would have prevented Sandy Hook, Aurora, Columbine, or any of these other atrocious acts of evil and cowardice? Scores of laws were violated in each one of those incidents, and did NOTHING to prevent them. The failure of logic astounds me.

Petraeus warns against sending ground troops to Syria

Asked whether it is a place for the U.S., Iran, Russia and Saudi Arabia to come together or whether he would limit it to just the U.S. and Russia, Petraeus opted for the former.

Petraeus' warning over sending American ground forces to Syria comes amid a U.S. political debate over how best to attack the Islamic State, whose stronghold is in Raqqa, Syria. Republican presidential candidates have urged President Barack Obama to bolster the U.S. commitment beyond the publicly announced 50 Special Forces troops, while Obama has pushed back, saying it would be a "mistake" to do so.

Chuck, I don't think Obama has much of a strategy at all. It is very much like he is simply making it up as he goes in a very reactionary style. He has authorized drone strikes in the past as he thought appropriate, but he refuses to unshackle our military with his asinine rules of engagement. We have been bombing ISIS targets for over a year now, and yet the French get attacked and go in and bomb to take out ISIS headquarters in Raqqa last week. Why the hell is ISIS headquarters still existing after a year of our bombing until the French take care of it?

It is because the cowardly evil subhumans of ISIS hide their command and control functions amongst civilian populations. Obama is so risk-averse of collateral damage to anyone that is not 100% vetted as an ISIS terrorist that he refuses to authorize any attacks accordingly. I understand and fully support that we should NEVER target innocent civilians, but when an evil enemy uses them as a shield, how else does one fight them? 75% of active ISIS targets are not engaged, according to our bomber pilots, because of the possibility of such collateral damage. The result is that ISIS continues to grow and target other innocent people accordingly.

The fact that ISIS is NOT contained and is coordinating multiple international strikes should give our Commander in Chief pause to reflect that his strategy has indeed failed and he needs to unleash the full might of our military to defeat this existential threat to decent humanity.

I was in the desert during Operation Desert Storm 25 years ago. I have seen enough evil to know that half measures and trying to fight a politically correct war only prolongs the war and costs far more lives. The purpose of the military is to destroy things and kill our enemies. They should be allowed to do so with such overwhelming force that the enemy is annihilated and any remnants will be so weakened and disheartened that they will never raise a hand against America ever again. Of course to do this, one has to believe in America. Obama has not shown that he does. George W. Bush had some foolish ROE, but Obama has made it where we would be better off to just withdraw all of our military to within our borders rather than have them be targets in foreign lands. I am sure that would probably be cheered by many of our leftist friends too.

The United States, with up to ten times the military budget of Russia, couldn't do in one year what the Russians have done in about a month. This has to make one wonder who supports and funds ISIS (ISIL).

It also has to make one wonder who was actually behind the shooting down of the Russian bomber yesterday.

That said, the military should always be the last resort whenever it comes to the defense of our nation... when all other alternatives have been exhausted. When that time comes, however, it is imperative that we destroy our enemy's command and control infrastructure and kill them with extreme prejudice with overwhelming force. Only by doing so with alacrity will we be able to shorten wars and ultimately save lives by finding true peace on the other side of war.

War is a horrible thing beyond all comprehension, but when it becomes necessary, it should be fought to the fullest. That means killing the enemy and destroying his means to wage war against us.

So by extrapolating what the results would have been if America would have let the USSR run without checks during the cold war, we would have had far more people living under repressive communist regimes in poverty today. I dare say the Soviet Union would still be around today if we followed the course that Mozart and Jeff's Guard would have preferred.

Further, if we had not intervened in the first gulf war, Saddam would not have stopped with Kuwait. He would have continued into Saudi Arabia and the other gulf states eventually. I know that probably doesn't bother you two because evidently you think we can live in a vacuum and nobody will bother us if we stick to ourselves.

Since we are the world's largest economy and lone remaining superpower, that just isn't so. I know that the leftist meme is that Bush created ISIS, but the truth of the matter is he didn't do it by himself. With Obama's precipitous rush to get our troops out of Iraq and the Middle East, ISIS has come in to fill that vacuum. It was absolutely predictable, but our "anti-colonialist" and "anti-America" president is a freaking idiot. He broadcasted our intentions and gave dates when we would pull out. He hamstrung us with ROE that KILLED more Americans because of them.

And Mozart, with all due respect, you are a damned fool and understand nothing about radical Wahabbi Sunni Islam and their world-wide caliphate goals if you think that they would have left us alone and the twin towers would still be standing if we had not intervened in Desert Storm. These radical evil scum have been at war with us for many decades, before we even were acknowledging it.

Simply spewing blame-America first crap may sound good at your local Mother Jones book readings and ACLU meetings but often times it simply does not even remotely reflect reality or truth, sir.

As the tail that wags the dog, The United States (although not as official policy) is complicit in the savagery and brutality of the Israeli government. Yes, you understood me correctly.

"If so, you are absolutely a huge part of the problem, sir, and are absolutely disgustingly in error."

You've obviously swallowed your share of the blue pills...sir!, and have bought the official meme hook, line, and sinker. Because of this, I consider you the problem. The "error" is pronouncedly yours. Future events will assuredly bring your naivety to light.

"Perhaps you missed my previous comments as to why that is... why our asinine and feckless Commander in Chief refuses to bomb prime ISIS targets. If you give a damn, scroll back and read it. Frankly, I don't care what you do, considering your vile rhetoric, sir."

As usual, you miss the big picture. If you think, for a second, that the president actually calls the shots, it's impossible not to think the way you do. Once you realize that the president takes his marching orders -- as all presidents have in recent memory -- from a conglomerate of powerful and insanely wealthy few who steer the ship in the direction that fulfills their motives and desires, the uncertainty and confusion lifts.

I'm sorry that you feel my viewpoints, that are more believable and more legitimate than yours, are "vile" and disagreeable to you. They should be. The coup d'état that has already occurred in this country is not something that's easy to digest or decipher. It was accomplished from the inside and it happened in relative slow-motion, but it did indeed occur. Start connecting the dots and continue educating yourself. Your epiphanic moment will one day take place.

But in 1998, Bernie cast a YEA vote on HR 4655, the Iraqi Liberation Act of 1998, which was signed into law by Bill Clinton and expressed the opinion of Congress that it should be the aim of the United States to remove Saddam Hussein from power. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_Liberation_Act.

TP,

I realize you were using subhuman as a figure of speech - but I decided to comment. The people who committed those atrocities are just people. Clearly, they had arrived in a place where they had no respect for life - including their own. Perhaps if the environment they lived in a year ago was more optimistic, those acts may never have been committed? Whatever... they did what they did.

I think the clearest evidence of their humanity is that by lashing out at random people it is doubtful that they hit any of the people actually responsible for the policies that drove them. It would also seem that their acts had opposite effect of what they may have wanted in that it further empowers those that bring oppressive policies. Just look at the escalation of French military activity.

Radicals from Belgium commit crime France - who in turn attacks a different county. Perpetuate violence. Echos the Bush policies.

Going back to my earlier post regarding the TPP, I want to ask about some real subhumans...

Decades ago, Exxon-Mobile's scientists had identified that climate destabilization would result from continual fossil fuel combustion. Rather than coming up with a plan to scale back the use of fossil fuel, they begin a campaign of misinformation regarding their conclusions so they can continue their activities unabated.

It is already evident that sea level rise is underway. In the next couple of decades, we will get a notion of how fast it is actually happening. Even in a scenario where a relatively modest change occurs, there will be huge impacts on humanity. And sea level is just one facet of the many complexities that fuel consumption is bringing to us. When you start adding to this, ocean acidification, the loss of species on which people depend... It does not seem to bode well for many of us.

In those same decades that the fossil fuel industry was carrying out this fraud on the public, an unprecedented industrialization of agriculture has occurred which also hugely contributes to climate destabilization.

Now our nation is on the verge of adopting the TPP which has the result of protecting the same corporations that are bringing this huge crisis to humanity. Not only that, it will make it even more difficult to apply any controls to the practices that are destroying the quality of our living space. This is psychotic. This is subhuman

At 9:56 AM, Anonymous John said...

BTW the 'evidence of humanity' bit, I meant in the 'to err is human' way.

TP,
You are stating Saddam “would have continued into Saudi Arabia and the other gulf states eventually” as if it were fact and not a hypothetical. And what lesson did he get when Reagan encouraged and supported his invasion of Iran?

You follow “leftist meme is that Bush created ISIS” with the” rightist meme” calling the Iraqi demand, and Bush’s Status of Forces Agreement, to withdraw troops “Obama's precipitous rush to get our troops out of Iraq”. And Bush also “broadcasted our intentions” to invade, inviting the rise of al-Qaeda in Iraq, didn’t he? These are the facts.

We know it is impossible for the Right to accept the fact there would be no ISIS had Bush not invaded Iraq and disbanded their military that went on to form ISIS, So “meme away” all you want.

“Confused Troll” is not progressive. He is not contributing, but distracting, from the conversation.

He knows the Iraq Liberation Act did not call for invasion, and it was not Bush’s Iraq War Resolution that MOST Democrats voted against.

The primary corporatist war party will only lead us to more death and disasters, (along with tax cuts for the rich and further serving corporate over public interests) if allowed to control the White House and Congress. The sheep-like American public has learned nothing, and has no memory.

Syrian refugees are treated like terrorists while the Paris killers were neither refugees nor Syrian.

Isn’t the GOP’s fear-mongering and shunning of refugees from terror not the “stick to ourselves” and “live in a vacuum” policy you condemn?

Our bipartisan governing class has successfully suppressed public discussion of the undeniable link between Islamic doctrine and terrorism.

Consequently, many Americans are still in the dark about sharia, classical Islam’s societal framework and legal code. It is brave Americans like Bill Maher who shed light on this link and challenge the forces of the Politically Correct 1984 like Obama Ministry of Truth.

We should long ago have recognized sharia as the bright line that separates authentic Muslim moderates, hungry for the West’s culture of reason and individual liberty, from Islamic supremacists, resistant to Western assimilation and insistent on incremental accommodation of Muslim law and mores.

Sharia rejects the touchstone of American democracy: the belief that the people have a right to govern themselves and chart their own destiny.

In sharia governance, the people are subjects not citizens, and they are powerless to question, much less to change, Allah’s law.

Sharia systematically discriminates against women and non-Muslims. It is brutal in its treatment of apostates and homosexuals.

It denies freedom of conscience, free expression, property rights, economic liberty, and due process of law.

It licenses wars of aggression against infidels for the purpose of establishing sharia as the law of the land.

Sharia is also heavily favored by Muslims in majority-Muslim countries.

Polling consistently tells us that upwards of two-thirds of Muslims in the countries from which we are accepting refugees believe sharia should be the governing system.

Just look at how the cancer of sharia is spreading in Michigan.

Actually, the goal of Radical Christian terrorism is to impose their "Christian Sharia". All who disagree are fair targets to these hateful and crazed extremists. Liberals and minorities have been killed for being liberals and minorities. They will even stalk and shoot their victims in churches, as in Charleston, and the Tennessee Unitarian church.

TP and other Christians with a conscience will tell us these killers are not true Christians.

But will they allow Muslims to say the same of their terrorists? Wake me when one does.

Dubya, Mozart, and team, to my knowledge a motive has not been mentioned in the evil acts of murder committed by this scum. If he is killing people because he is "pro-life", then he is surely working contrary to the cause. I pray for the souls of the misguided people working and patronizing the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood, as well as the officers that tried to save people there.

Whether this evil culprit proclaims to be a Christian or not, he certainly is not living by any orthodox mainstream interpretation of the New Testament and Christ's commands any more than the vile Westboro Baptist Church is. I strongly condemn him unequivocally accordingly.

All of that said, true Christianity is on the wane and holds less and less sway over how people govern and live their lives in America or Europe. Militant Wahabbi Islam however is definitely on the rise. And as mentioned by fellow posters, their goal is to establish a world wide caliphate. Your eventual choice will be to convert, submit to servitude, or be killed under the dictates of Sharia law if we don't stop their jihad.

I don't see any such remote threat from Christianity. Ellen framed it very clearly. Of course Christians will try to support legislation that prevents the nation from further slouching towards Gomorrah, but they will not take up arms and kill those that disagree with them, even when our first amendment rights to the free exercise of our religions have been infringed upon. Yes, there will be a few mentally ill or disgruntled people that claim murderous actions under the banner of the faith of Christianity, but they are very few and horribly misguided.

Dave keeps saying that more people are killed by Christians terrorists than Muslims in this nation. I haven't bothered to check the veracity of this counter-intuitive assertion yet, but I assure you without a doubt that the greatest future threat to our citizens will not come from Christians. It will come from radical evil Muslims. If you think otherwise, then you are a damned fool and not truly paying attention. You are putting your politics ahead of reality... again.

And Dave, I am getting pretty fed up with your Christian bashing. Simply because we disagree does not make me hateful, bigoted, hypocritical, or a mammon-worshiping Republican. All of that said, you are indeed right about one thing, which applies to all of us, INCLUDING all of you leftist friends of ours:

"By their fruits, you shall know them."

PS: Dubya, if you wish to keep using Christian scripture in your verbal assaults, perhaps you could answer Chuck's long-standing-unanswered question: Do you believe Jesus is who He says He is?

At 2:58 PM, Blogger Dave Dubya said...

TP,
You misunderstand my point entirely. I am bashing hypocrites and extremists and their acts of terror, as you do with the likes of Westboro, and the killers.

As you ignore my offer of evidence of Right Wing terror, please don’t characterize my reporting facts as “putting your politics ahead of reality”. This is projection, my good man.

The great flaw of Christianity and Islam is the arrogance of righteousness that allows the deranged to use their faith to justify violence.

Yes, there will be a few mentally ill or disgruntled people that claim murderous actions under the banner of the faith of Christianity, but they are very few and horribly misguided.

If this is true for millions of peaceful American Christians, why isn’t it true for billions of peaceful Muslims? Don’t you know terrorism is also condemned by Muslims too?

Your eventual choice will be to convert, submit to servitude, or be killed under the dictates of Sharia law if we don't stop their jihad.

...Yeah, if ISIS wrests control of our government from the servants of mammon.

Could this be fear generated by the amygdala, or by FOX and the Republican Party? I disagree, of course. We will sooner be forced to surrender our rights to the insane and eternal “war on terror”. Shall we compare evidence?

…you wish to keep using Christian scripture in your verbal assaults

I’m only holding the hypocrites to their supposed standards. Don’t you see how that is more compassionate, and Christian, than using religion as an excuse to hate and kill?

I was raised Catholic and have always held Jesus as my role model. My beliefs concerning doctrine and dogma, how religion divides us, are irrelevant to fact based discussion. However I respect all peaceful, kind and loving persons of all faiths. That probably doesn’t sound “Christian” to some.

This may not be good enough for you and Chuckie, but God understands, and my conscience is clear. Judge as you will.

FBI warns of threat to reproductive health care facilities

With Congress grappling over the future of funding for Planned Parenthood, CBS News has learned that law enforcement authorities are seeing an uptick in attacks on reproductive health care facilities.
A newly-released FBI Intelligence Assessment says, "it is likely criminal or suspicious incidents will continue to be directed against reproductive health care providers, their staff and facilities," reports CBS News' Jeff Pegues.
Since the release of the initial video by pro-life organization Center for Medical Progress in July, investigators say there have been nine criminal or suspicious incidents across the country.
The incidents include reported cyber-attacks, threats and arsons. The FBI believes the incidents are, "consistent with the actions of lone offenders using tactics of arsons and threats all of which are typical of the pro-life extremist movement".

They showed hours upon hours of unedited raw footage in context of all of the vile and evil done in Planned Parenthood under the guise of "reproductive services" and "health care". They released these videos at the exact same time that they released the shortened, but still in context, highlight videos.

Are they liars because they shine the disinfecting light of truth on an evil organization that is partially funded with our tax payer dollars because PP has lied and claims it is for "health care"?

All of that said, the evil done behind the doors of those places does not warrant anyone going into those clinics and killing people within. That makes the murderer as guilty as those he is killing there.

As for right-wing domestic terrorists in this country, I condemn each and every one of them. The sovereign citizen groups in particular are very scary and increasing in power.

That said, you are a fool, Dave, if you don't think there are still plenty of active left-wing domestic terrorist groups in the nation. Yes, most of their death and destruction was done in the 60's, 70's and into the 90's, but there are some still around today, while the groundwork is being laid for new leftist terrorist groups.

Why even our beloved President Obama started his political career with a campaign event in the living room of Bill Ayers, the unrepentant left-wing terrorist who now teaches college to our kids. Romney was pilloried for putting his dog in a carrier on top of his car by the press, but Obama can pal around with a terrorist that bombed police and federal buildings and still not be disqualified to run for president. THERE is your liberal media helping you out there!

The black lives matter groups have been exceptionally violent in their rhetoric and many cops have been killed in the country because of their hateful rhetoric. The SEIU and other militant unions have done property destruction, intimidation, and battery on those that disagree with them. And lets not forget the groundwork set by the entitlement whiners of Occupy Wall Street. We can also look at the terrorist acts committed by the Earth Liberation Front and the Animal Liberation Front too.

Yes, there are plenty of right wing terrorists and also left wing terrorists. That said, the long term greatest threat still arises from extremist Muslim terrorists. If you think otherwise, then just go back to sleep and pretend everything is well.

How about we all, left and right, condemn terrorism wherever it arises from and not excuse those employing it as a tactic? Can we agree on that?

The only lie CMP made was to Planned Parenthood regarding who they were during their undercover work. As for the "misleading" film edits, that is BS. Provide one example of their lying or misleading edits. I bet you haven't even watched a single video of theirs and are simply going off of what the left-wing sources tell you, aren't you, Dave? And again, if you were indeed worried about context, they provided untold hours of raw un-edited footage that was released the same days the the highlight videos were.

And you are damned right I support their getting out the TRUTH to the seemingly largely uncaring public. And spare me the "legal operation" crap too. All of the atrocities committed under totalitarian regimes from the Nazi's to the Khmer Rouge were "legal" by authoritarian law too. Killing our unborn because SCOTUS found some non-existent right to abortion in our constitution is a travesty of law, let alone morality.

The people I have stood and prayed with outside of PP, are peaceful and loving people. They are polite even to the staff of PP. Nobody I know of wants harm to come to them or anybody entering their offices. They also don't want the unborn to be harmed. I strongly and unequivocally condemn anyone that thinks harming or killing abortionists is the right way to solve the problem. It is sentiment that CMP agrees with.

If you disagree, then I want to hear you disavow right now the Black Lives Matter movement. They have SPECIFICALLY called for violence against police, and cops have died because of them. If you truly think CMP, who has condemned violence in the pro-life movement is guilty, then surely you must also think Black Lives Matter has even greater culpability, right?

there are still plenty of active left-wing domestic terrorist groups in the nation…The black lives matter groups have been exceptionally violent in their rhetoric and many cops have been killed in the country because of their hateful rhetoric.

You tend to state unsupported claims as fact. If I were a fool, I’d accept these as facts without seeing evidence. I’ll call it opinion until proven. Fair?

While you condemn the rhetoric, not actions, of BLM, white supremacists showed up to a Black Lives Matter protest Monday night in Minneapolis and shot five African-American participants.

So, my point is this. Who is really more dangerous, BLM or the White Supremacists who shoot them? Can you blame them for being angry, or for just not knowing their place?

Once again the extremists on the Right prove to be far more dangerous.

Now how about you judge the rhetoric of “Tiller the baby killer” O’Reilly and liars saying PP is “selling baby parts for profit”? This vile rhetoric has led to multiple deaths. The fanatics also give out addresses and personal information about their targets. Can you cite where BLM gave out a cops address?

CMP has lied about PP “selling baby parts for profit”, which is illegal and unsupported by film or other evidence. This pours gas on the flames of hatred and violence. I don't want to hear their hollow condemnation of the fruits of their war on women's rights. Furthermore, how safe are those women at PP now that the nuts know their faces? Who cares, right? When, not if, they are gunned down, the fringe Right will blame the victims. And CMP will piously condemn the murder they stoke.

More liars:

Rick Perry, July 14: The video showing a Planned Parenthood employee selling the body parts of aborted children is a disturbing reminder of the organization’s penchant for profiting off the tragedy of a destroyed human life.

Rand Paul, July 14: … a video showing [Planned Parenthood]’s top doctor describing how she performs late-term abortions to sell body parts for profit!

Carly Fiorina, July 14: This latest news is tragic and outrageous. This isn’t about “choice.” It’s about profiting on the death of the unborn while telling women it’s about empowerment.

You can’t name any left wing terrorist act in the US in this century. I bet you can’t cite any left wing terror killings from the 90s, either. What does this tell us? It tells us their acts of the past were largely self defense against being sent to be slaughtered in Vietnam.

Back in 2002 the FBI knew what they were talking about, whether ignored by the Right or not:

“During the past decade we have witnessed dramatic changes in the nature of the terrorist threat. In the 1990s, right-wing extremism overtook left-wing terrorism as the most dangerous domestic terrorist threat to the country.”

How many people did Ayers kill? Zero. Some “terrorist”. It was violence against property, not innocent humans. Laura Bush’s reckless driving killed more than Ayers did.

In a letter to the editor in the Chicago Tribune, Ayers wrote, "I condemn all forms of terrorism — individual, group and official".

I guess you know better.

“Obama can pal around with a terrorist”

Just a tip. When you parrot Sarah Palin, nobody will take you seriously.

Dave Dubya: "JG...The Right sees no plutocracy, even though they support it and advance their propaganda."

The right obviously missed the peer-reviewed study from Princeton and Northwestern Universities, titled Testing Theories of American Politics: Elites, Interest Groups, and Average Citizens, published in April 2014, which revealed that the United States is unequivocally and most assuredly now an oligarchy.

Hmm...I wonder how they missed that?

Oh, and yes, they definitely support its agenda -- ignorantly and willfully.

"TP is to be given consideration for his disagreement with the Citizens United decision."

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware. I tend to not spend as much time here these days. However, I cannot issue a free pass to T. Paine for his remaining omissions, misrepresentations, projections, and in many cases, out-and-out lies. He definitely sees the world through a prism, with only the brightest and most beautiful colors falling upon the United States. His propensity toward narrowmindedness and one-sidedness eliminates him as an agent of positive change.

JG,

This is the ultimate agenda of the economic elite’s Con-servative rule by divine right of wealth.

For those without time to read the study, there’s a good summary of Testing Theories of American Politics: Elites, Interest Groups, and Average Citizens here.

===
Gilens and Page used a data-set of 1,779 policy issues from 1981 to 2002 to compare actual policy outcomes with the prevailing policy preferences of three income groups: “10Th income percentile (quite poor), the 50th percentile (median), and the 90th percentile (fairly affluent).”

Not surprisingly, the policy desires of the 90 Percenters (earning at least $146,000 per year) are the most likely to become policy outcomes. If they support a policy, it has a 45% chance of being enacted. But if they oppose a policy, there is an 82% chance it will be defeated, derailed on the way to becoming a law, even if a majority of Americans support it.

These findings are more daunting when we consider that the study’s data-set ends before Citizens United, the sanctification of money as constitutionally-protected speech and the growing post-crash spike in inequality.

COURIC: Palin says she makes no apologies for her pro-life views and opposes abortion, even in the case of rape or incest.
PALIN: I’m saying that personally I would counsel that person to choose life, despite horrific, horrific circumstances that this person would find themselves in. - 2008

BACHMANN: What we want is women to be able to make their own choices […] We want women to make their own choices in healthcare. You see that’s the lie that happens under Obamacare. The President of the United States effectively becomes a health care dictator. Women don’t need anyone to tell them what to do on health care. We want women to have their own choices, their own money, that way they can make their own choices for the future of their own bodies. – Meet The Press

Palin (personally I would counsel that person to choose life) and Bachmann (We want women to make their own choices in healthcare) are pro-choice, not that they would admit it. They don’t have the intellectual honesty to recognize that reality.

“Choose life” and “make their own choices for the future of their own bodies” clearly imply choice. That is, if words mean the same in reality as they do in Con-world Bubble. Yeah, we know…IOKIYAR. Forced births are for those “other kind” of women.

Dave, it is not inconsistent for someone who is truly pro-life to also be against the killing of an unborn child that is the result of rape or incest. Indeed that is the very definition of consistency. That a child should be conceived through such horrific circumstances does not negate the fact that the unborn child is still innocent LIFE! Killing that child through abortion simply exacerbates horrible circumstances with even more evil.

In my opinion, only to save the life of a mother should a child ever be terminated, and then the desire is not the death of the child but rather the life of the mother.

"Pro-choice" is a euphemism created by those that want to justify the killing of the unborn for whatever reasons they find warrant it.

It isn't about the woman's body and "her choice" when it affects another human being with a separate body. What choice does the unborn child get? Evidently that "choice" doesn't matter to those who support the concept of abortion.

At 7:09 PM, Blogger Dave Dubya said...

Define "unborn child" please. How separate is a body that cannot sustain life without the host? Does a zygote even know what life is? Does it experience the "horror" you assign to it? Human life is sentient. A zygote is a non-sentient, potential Homo Sapiens. It's rights should not supersede a fully developed, living and breathing, sentient being; for THAT is what defines human life. "Unborn child" does not fit this definition.

How pro-life is it to force a woman to bear the offspring of her rapist? Does her life count when a shattered emotional state and the pain of a forced birth are imposed upon her to remind her of the trauma of rape? What hope would a developed child have to be normal, knowing he is the unwanted, government-mandated product of violent rape of his mother?

Should a woman be forced to bear to term, and give birth to a fetus that has no brain, or other severe deformity that would make life a terrible choice for both the fetus and mother?

It's not a simple black and white issue, is it? Beliefs may be consistent, but life isn't. Neither pro-choice nor anti-choice are euphemisms. They are specifically clear and polar positions.

Look. I don't like abortion. Contrary to the fanatics on the Right, no one does. It is a tragic and difficult choice. Denial of that choice could lead to more tragic and difficult conditions.

Are you aware of the arrest, humiliation and imprisonment of women who suffer a miscarriage in El Salvador where the same policy that you embrace is in place?

They are being charged with murder. Is this what you mean by "truly pro-life"? It is in fact anti-choice, anti-freedom and anti-equality.

Be thankful you will never suffer such inequality of rights as the loss of control of who you are, and who you choose to be.

Some things are best left between a woman and her God. You and I and the Republican Party and the government are not, and should not be, in this relationship.

And you whine about the government coming between you and your doctor? Please.

How much of that hated government control over your life is anything near being forced by the government to bear the child of your rapist? Be honest. When anti-choicers whine about being "oppressed" by Obamacare, or "Socialism" or anything else, they are hypocrites wishing to impose their beliefs and choices unto others.

Plus he wants our tax dollars to pay for the murders.
I wonder if Davy who is so in bed with Islam knows what is their position on abortion, or for that matter gay marriage or equal pay for women?
Hypocrite!

Looks like Obama isn’t the only one who “pals around with terrorists”.

Cruz touted an endorsement from Troy Newman, president of the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, who stated, “the United States government has abrogated its responsibility to properly deal with the blood-guilty. This responsibility rightly involves executing convicted murderers, including abortionists, for their crimes in order to expunge bloodguilt from the land and people.”

In 1988, Cheryl Sullenger, now Operation Rescue's vice president, was convicted along with her husband for their part in a failed plot to blow up an abortion clinic.

Cruz and Huckabee attended a conference hosted by pastor Kevin Swanson. “Tiller killed 60,000 babies, so that’s 60,000 dead babies and one dead abortionist," Swanson said on his radio show. "So, let’s just say, the abortionists are still ahead on this one…People tend to get their comupance [sic], and that’s precisely what happened to Tiller the Killer."

There’s your American Taliban, ISIS, and Jihadists calling for the deaths of fellow Americans who break no laws.

This is the dark face of evil and terror in Right Wing American Christianity.

How Radical Right Wing Christian terrorism works:

Bryn Greenwood, a woman who worked at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Kansas has posted a list of all the different ways she and her coworkers were terrorized by Christian Extremists during the 3 years she worked there.

I worked at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Kansas for 3 years. My coworkers & I were subjected to the following acts of terrorism:

Gasoline was poured under our back door & ignited 4 times. Twice while the clinic was occupied, causing patients to be evacuated.

Butyric acid (used as a stink bomb) was poured under our doors & into ventilation system so many times I lost count. Clinic evacuated.

We received hundreds of phone calls, threatening to torch our clinic & to kill the "murdering whores" who worked there.

3 times someone drove by at night & shot out our windows. Picketers stood on the sidewalk & harassed employees as we swept up broken glass.

Our clinic didn't perform abortions. We did well woman exams, pregnancy tests, dispensed birth control, & treated STIs.

Our clinic offered free & low cost services in a low income neighborhood, but every day the "pro-life" movement tried to frighten us.

The goal was to make us afraid to come to work, to make us quit, to make us close the clinic. That's terrorism. That's how terrorism works.

This is the terrorism Chuckie and fellow “Christians” support.

I bet even Jesus thinks Chuckie is an asshole.

America is absolutely awash with easily obtainable firearms. You can go down to a gun show at the local convention center and come away with a fully automatic assault rifle, without a background check, and most likely without having to show an identification card. Quick think! If they can smuggle in a TON of drugs...so much it floods EVERY city street with heroine for $5 right under the nose of all those spiffy feds with all their laws...what ELSE can come in? Hint: Custom's Dogs don't detect metal. In Chicago...that place where black lives matter so much that 2000 dead so far are not "frequent"...the PD confiscates one ILLEGAL gun per every 1.5 hour. Ok, so where do they all come from IF the number of stolen guns don't match that number? Times up! GHOST GUNS smuggled in from OTHER countries right under the noses of all those politicians calling for stricter gun laws on US people... but for which those laws won't matter SQUAT to the ghost guns...cause they're already illegal and smuggled in. Shhh! The feds control the Customs people and they're Obama's responsibility. You don't think he knows this about guns smuggled thru the screen-door border??? Sure he does! SHHH! WE'RE TALKING A SMUGGLING HOLE nearly bigger than the number of manufactured US guns. Anything you want! Want an Uzi? No problem. How about a knockoff S&W? Sure! Take my order! They look IDENTICAL right down to the serial number and manufacturer name CLONE of a US manufactured gun. Now...WHY would a gang banger PAY more money for a KNOCK OFF foreign gun? Because he can be assured it NEVER was used in a previous crime. Easy drug money makes this a good business decision because he'll not go down for a crime committed before with that gun. Use the gun, sell it to a punk, he'll go down for your crime...go get another ghost gun. ITS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOME STREET SWEEPER FULLY AUTO GHOST GUN, SMUGGLED RIGHT THROUGH ALL THOSE FEDERAL LAWS, is used in a TERROR attack. Betcha $100 ALL THOSE LOFTY POLITICIANS will direct the FEDERAL AGENCIES NOT to tell the American people. Politicians have nothing to fear as they have fully-auto protection people...but you folks...well...you;re on your own.
