Praying For Affordable Care

Pete, Jeff and Tom Degan

Today we may see the destruction of Affordable Care in this nation forever. It depends upon The Supremes.

My expatriate brother, Jeff Degan, wrote this message to his fellow Americans eleven years ago. I found it in my Facebook "Memories" page very early this morning. It seems a bit strange that, all of these years later, we're still having this same, idiotic conversation:

"As an American who has been living in Europe for most of the last 20 years, one who has visited doctors numerous times in four different countries, whose two children were brought into this world in European hospitals (France and England), who has himself spent a week in a public British hospital, and who underwent an operation in a private British clinic, I think I can say a thing or two about health care in Europe.

"Our out of pocket expenses for the births? Zero. Even though in France my wife spent 5 days in the hospital after the birth of our first daughter, which is standard by the way. "During the three years we lived in England, we never once paid for medicine for our children. Children get drugs for free in the UK. Visits to the GP are free for everybody.

"My expenses for the week in the NHS hospital? Zero.

"The cost of the operation in the private clinic? Zero, it was covered by my work insurance, as was the post-op physical therapy I needed.

"In Western Europe you would never be forced to sell your home in order to pay for your medical bills, as happens all too often in America when catastrophic illness strikes and the insurance company decides that your condition was 'pre-existing'.

"The quality of the care? Mostly good. French hospitals are excellent, even the food is decent. The food at the NHS hospital was beyond awful, but then again most English food is pretty bad (though they do have great Indian food).

At night, they were understaffed, but I am guessing that, apart from that place where Dr. House works, most American hospitals are understaffed at night, too.

"In short, in the US, you pay more, get less, and die younger than we do in Europe. What part of that don't you understand?

"My fellow Americans, you have nothing to fear except those who would use fear to keep you enslaved to the myth of the might of the American health care system."

Jeff Degan, Somewhere in France

What can I tell you? I know what you're thinking and and I wholeheartedly agree: the guy is a hopeless commie: an eternal shame and disgrace to the good name of the Degan Family. I also think that he may very well be on to something.

If you look at The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) health statistics page, it shows that the US spent 17.0% of GDP on healthcare in 2019. The UK 10.3%, France 11.2%. The average for the top 37 industrialised nations: 8.8%. Therefore the US spends almost TWICE as much than this.

Per capital the US spent $11,071 in 2019. The UK $4,653, France $5,375 and the top 36 industrialised nation average was $4,223. So the US spends over 2.6 times per head of population on average than 37 other nations.

So you'd think the nation that spends such vast sums of money would have the best health outcomes? Let's see!

Life expectancy (years):
UK 81.3
France 82.8
36 Nation average 80.7
US 78.7 (ranked 27th from 37 countries)

Infant Mortality rates (per 1,000 births)
UK 3.9
France 3.8
US 5.8 (ranked 33rd out of 37 countries).

It seems virtually every single developed country in the world has worked out health for profit is not the best way of going about things. The US is broken is so many ways, and almost 50% of the population seem to like it this way.

The "pro-life" party has a health care plan. "Let 'em die".

That's the extent of their compassion for the sick, injured and dying.Their priority is enriching insurance company CEO's who provide ZERO health care.

Just what "Republican Jesus" wants, amirite? Classic Jesus thinks they are selfish, greedy jerks.

Yes, I mean, it's so obvious, the rich NEED to run the government, much more than the people need healthcare and education.

People should just shut up, and work harder for corporate profits that help the rich buy Republicans to run our country.

That's why the rich NEED more tax cuts and corporate bailouts. Libs are so greedy!

Good news for Trump supporters. The Taliban and al-Qaeda appreciate your help.

Washington Post: The Pentagon’s inspector general published an 84-page report on Tuesday warning that al Qaeda is excited about Trump’s push to withdraw troops from Afghanistan. The quarterly document, which is required by law, noted that Taliban forces have attacked U.S. troops since Secretary of State Mike Pompeo signed a peace deal with the terrorist group in February. “The [Defense Intelligence Agency] reported that al-Qaeda leaders support the agreement because it does not require the Taliban to publicly renounce al-Qaeda and the deal includes a timeline for the United States and coalition forces to withdraw—accomplishing one of al-Qaeda's main goals,” the report notes.

(We won't be hearing much from Vern on this one. He's gonna have to set some uppity Republicans straight.)

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) took to the floor to declare that he is “alarmed” by Trump’s plan to reduce the U.S. presence to “a potentially unstable and dangerous level,” and that the lame-duck president is doing so “without any real consultation, either with our allies at NATO or elsewhere, certainly not with Congress.”

“A precipitous retreat, which would reverse the progress we have made and fought so hard to make, is deeply troubling,” Cornyn said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) warned in his own floor speech that “the consequences of a premature American exit” from Afghanistan “would be reminiscent of the humiliating American departure from Saigon in 1975.”

"Headlines about ‘bringing the boys home’ sound good, but that’s not what’s happening,” added Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.). “I fear this weak retreat is not grounded in reality and will make the world a more dangerous place.”

They had the chance to remove Trump, but failed their oath to the Constitution.

Remember when Trump accused Obama of revealing military operations beforehand? That was different, amirite?

At 5:39 PM, Blogger woodenman said...

When Trump proposed to pull all troops out of Syria 50 Democrats signed a letter to Trump stating he was endangering our national security. So he left the troops there and started stealing Syria's oil which is going on to this day.

Of course the Republicans never want to leave Afghanistan or any other place because they get so many kickbacks from the weapons manufacturers. I guess the Democrats got on the take also so there is no anti-war influence at all anymore.

The U.S, a big military base masquerading as a country.

The irony is it was Republican President Eisenhower who warned of undue influence by the military industrial complex. So the next thing we know, both parties jumped on the MIC bandwagon while slurping at Wall Street troughs.

And to maintain this, they need the myth of democracy for cover.

There's lots of "Free for thee but not for me". Like food stamps, corporate welfare and bank bailouts. And covid care for Trump.

We all pay for it. Like Social Security and Medicare.

Like roads, police and fire departments and the military.

None of these cost an individual anything apart from Constitutional taxes. It is socialized. (Except for Trump. He often doesn't pay taxes. He's special. He's a taker.)

Aren't we about due for the annual "Liberal War on Christmas" to start? Or do we have to wait until after Black Friday, where we line up to beat the snot out of each other over things we don't need, the day after we gave thanks for what we already have.

And can I wish someone "Happy Holidays" with the intention of including all holidays from Sept - Feb, without some right wing loonie coming all unwrapped over it?

At 11:41 AM, Blogger TB3 said...

Yeah, but the problem with that is that they don't even hate Libs. They hate something they've been told to hate which is a fictional, mustache-twirling caricature of something they've been told is a "Liberal". Or palatable policies that they are against are suddenly "socialism" because they are pushed by a Democrat (Looking at you ACA)

Rush and Hannity used to be appointment listening for me way, way back. It saddens me that I didn't recognize their ad hominems were situational and fictional, depending on what agenda they were pushing at the time. RINO, Feminazi, Activist Judges. All part of my vocabulary back then. Unfortunately, I never really thought about it. I was told So and So was a RINO or women merely exercising their 1st Amendment Rights were bad or a judge giving an unfavorable ruling. These were bad.

I figured out how to step back and recognized my opinions at the time weren't actually my opinions. That's when all that indoctrination unraveled. None of it even made sense when you gave it even a modicum of thought. Why WAS Rush calling Harry Reid "dingy"? What was going through their minds "swiftboating" a Purple Heart recipient? Debating liberals with half your brain behind you back, Rush? That doesn't make sense, cause you never actually debated liberals, Rush. They were persona non grata on those radio programs. I recognized all they had were ad hominems thrown at strawpeople.

Honestly, be happy Starbucks even puts effort into having holiday themed cups or that poor minimum wage retail workers even acknowledge there's a holiday coming up that they probably may not even get to celebrate with their family when many others get to celebrate it. But to the special little snowflakes, that's not enough catering to their snowflakism.

And the level of energy put into the active cognitive dissonance and lying to themselves about reality and the projection... it's tiring being what they refer to as a "Liberal" and I just have to read and hear what they say. It's got to be exhausting for the JTFs of the world. And for what? It's so silly. So distracting from actually important things going on. We can make quips about the War on Christmas, but that just distracts us from the further tearing down of our great society by petulant losers that don't care about our country. A country the Snowflakes claim to care about but seem happy to cast aside for the very embodiment of all the things they claim to hate about the people and politics they hate.

(End rant)

At 1:23 PM, Blogger Dave Dubya said...

I agree the cult is indoctrinated to hate a generalized caricature of a liberal. The word "liberal" has been demonized, twisted and redefined so many times it has become almost meaningless. In fact it is being replaced by "socialist", now that the Left has shifted to labels like progressive and Green. Socialists see "liberals" as nothing more than moderate appeasers of the Right.

I appreciate your journey leftward as you began asking questions, reading, and applying critical thinking.

I was a small town kid dreaming of being a Marine before my older brother went to Vietnam. It was then that I started asking questions. By 1970 I was playing an electric guitar covering songs from the Woodstock album.

Before then, I grew up with the Cuban missile crisis was learned it was good to hate "godless commies who saw no meaning or value in human life".

This hate never left. It has been redirected to Americans who vote for "socialist" Democrats.

And it is a hate that has spawned Right wing terrorism to ever higher levels, of mass murder and a plot to kidnap and kill a Democratic governor.

The hate is being leveraged to undermine minority voter rights and overthrow elections. It is a war on democracy that is as great a threat as Nazis were. Just before the war an American Nazi rally filled Madison Square Garden. Their grandkids are now Confederate flag waving Trump fanatics.

Hate and racism are American traditions that have been tearing this country apart since its beginning.

Noted German Doctor of Alternative Medicine and Lockdown Critic Arrested By Merkel's Gestapo Live on YouTube Stream

While Angela Merkel sips champagne at the G20 meeting, her state police are raiding the homes and arresting German Covid lockdown critics. With shades of the WW2 Gestapo raid on a Dutch attic we are all familiar with, this arrest was captured live and is causing a stir everywhere but in the American media.

The renowned German Chemist and Alternative Medicine Doctor, Andreas Noack, was arrested while engaged in a live stream internet (Webinar) conference. The Doctor has criticized the lockdown measures and the new law the german government just passed called the 'Infection Protection Law.' They didn’t just send normal police, they’ve sent in the USK (Unterstützungskommando) which usually raids hideouts of terrorists and known armed and dangerous criminals.

The video shows the doctor’s door getting kicked in, and police treating him like a violent insurgent for his expression of ideas. Policemen can be heard banging furiously on the door of the place, where Dr. Noack was broadcasting. “It’s the police,” a man can be heard saying off-camera in panic. The video then shows police barging into the building forcing Dr. Andreas Noack to the ground. The police then proceed to terminate his live stream.

With the way NYC's oppressive treatment of some religious minorities have been lately, let's hope Mayor Wilhelm De Blasio doesn't get any ideas....
